Reviews of AT&T White Corded Speakerphone (CL2909)
1.) Good Phone with all the needed functions without an electrical brick!
Reviewed by: MC Halo Santa Clara, CA, USA
Rating:
Just went and bought this phone today after considerable research. And so far it is meeting expectations.
My needs in order of priority:
1. No electrical hookup - should run off phone line, like all old analog phones
2. Need speaker phone for occasional conference calls
3. Need Caller ID to screen calls.
4. Nice to have - programmable phone number bank
5. Ringer control - should be able to turn off ringer or make it go to visual
6. Should be able to put caller on hold or mute.
7. No answering machine needed
Needless to say - this was the only phone I found which could meet all of the above. The need to have one phone in the house which can be used if the electricity is off just made all the other phones miss out in some other aspects in the list above. Mostly they wouldnt have caller ID. All these features in this phone work on 4 -AA batteries and we will see how the consumption rate on that is.
It was easy to setup, though the wall mount , did have an issue with the hook for the handset. It just wouldnt slide out.... had to bring the screw driver and pry it loose.
Next, I will programme the frequently dialed numbers and see how that goes. It seems fairly easy from the instruction book.
So far I have tested the speakerphone and the handset - the sound quality is great! Our previous phone was introducing a lot of static in the calls, so this is a good replacement and I am happy with the price. ANd we have freed up one of the electrical sockets as this needs no electric connection!!
2.) Great Phone - More Features than Promised
Reviewed by: D. Schunemann Lagrangeville, NY United States

This is a great phone for those of us who still like to have a corded phone in the house. Everything was as advertised, except that it has a 25 number programmable directory in addition to the 14 "one touch" numbers. The online description and the package information fail to mention this great feature. I was almost ready to spring for the next model which for twice the price promised a 50 number directory.
I also like AT&T's caller ID software that can be set up to know whether incoming calls need 7, 10, or 11 digits for a call back. Some other phones make you toggle through the 7, 10, and 11 digit options woth the # key before you can call back.
3.) Speakerphone Caller-ID rocks it!

I love this phone! The shape of it wasn't my favorite, but we picked it for the features, reliable brand, and inexpensive price.
It's been working great for us. I've been pleasantly surprised that the ringer (when set on low) is very unobtrusive.
The only thing that isn't perfect is when programming the phone, it isn't completely intuitive how to program it (it could be easier).
For the price, features (speaker, caller ID, etc.), and general function, I'd say I'm very satisfied.

5.) Good Phone for Me

This phone is used as a part-time at-home office phone tied into my home phone line. I bought it primarily because my old phone's caller ID quit working. I like the speaker phone, programmable numbers, a pleasant, not too loud ring, and if my husband is using the upstairs phone, my caller ID screen says "Line In Use" and a soft light comes on to alert me not to pick up. The handset is comfortable to hold. However, voices seem kind of soft, not sharp, but maybe that's just me, and it's not really a problem. Haven't used other features such as Hold and Mute yet. Didn't want an answering machine attached and this phone fit the bill. Nicely affordable, too.

8.) At last, a telephone with adequate sound quality
Reviewed by: DorianLS United States
Rating:
I have bought and returned 5 or 6 corded telephones in the past couple of years. My complaint with all of them has been poor sound quality. Yes, I can hear others and they can hear me, but the quality of the sound is to me paramount. All phones I've purchased in the past worked well and had more features than I needed, but when it came down to the sound all used dinky, cheap Chinese microphones and speakers which must have cost a dime if that. I fully expected that I'd return this phone also and was nearly convinced that - oddly enough - telephone manufacturing companies just don't care about sound quality. Even the "Clarity Phone" had relatively poor sound quality, only they have high amplification so they can be heard by those hard of hearing but with the usual distortion and speaker hiss. (this phone also has a volume level adjustment; on high the sound is considerably louder than most phones though with some hiss)
Ok, now to this phone: I have not yet tried the speakerphone, but as for the handpiece microphone and speakers, they are both a cut above any of the other phones I have tried. That is not to say that they are great - they are not - but they are adequate and significantly better than other phones that I've tried. In this world of poorly engineered phones (i.e., poor speakers and mics but plenty of features), I'll give this phone 5 stars.

The directory has room for 25 numbers. All I need. Caller ID face is large and easy to read. Sound quality is as good as any phone I have ever had. Twenty years ago this would have cost $100 or more. The features are in the just right category. Nothing too much, nothing too fancy. Its a phone that works well. Caller ID works on batteries, which means there is nothing to plug in but the phone line. In this high tech age, electric outlets are at a premium. Plus you have the greater security (privacy) if a corded phone.
12.) Perfect form for a minimalist corded speakerphone

If you're like me and looking for exactly for the features you see here, you won't be disappointed. I was surprised at how difficult it was to find a phone like this. Corded. Speakerphone. Caller ID. That's it. No cordless handsets or other features that jack up the price into the $80+ range. It is prefect for me.

19.) Overall good but there's something wrong with the picture image...

I have little to knock about this phone. It's nice not being tied to a power block, it's easy to use and understand too. My big complaint is that the mfg's picture clearly shows the display as green back-lit. It is not back-lit! I don't hold Amazon responsible because they get their images from the mfg. With all the comparisons I've done, I'm not returning this phone because it was the best match for what I wanted.

I would have liked a busy signal redial; but I knew it didn't have that feature.
The caller ID needs to be backlit - it's difficult to read.
I haven't figured out how to shut off the red blinking light telling me I have calls I haven't looked at - when I have.
Nice size keys and decent sound quality.

I find this phone so far pretty good. I was a bit concerned about the review which says "MUTE button kills the deal" . I disagree with it. I tried different scenarios to check Mute problem but so far I haven't come across this problem. After reading that review I didn't buy online I bought it from a local store.
PROS: I like the thick handset.
speakerphone good, catches even very low voice.
I like the feeling when you push the buttons on phone.
good looks.
good features, quality in this price range.
MUTE button on the other side getting noise doesn't seem to be problem.
CONS: too much battery usage.(for speakphone and speakerphone button light, mute, call info LED light, LCD display)
when you get a call or make call "call info" light blinks all the time.
That's why I'll give 4 stars.

I was hoping to use this phone for business purposes. I work from home and often dial in to the office for on a conference bridge. When I'm not speaking I like to put the phone on mute in case my dog begins barking or there is some other background noise. Unfortunately this phone produces a loud clicking sound that is audible to the other party when the mute button is pressed (not to mention a loud beep in my ear). I simply cannot dial in to a meeting if my phone is going to produce noises that will annoy the other people on the line or constantly make them wonder if someone has hung up.

28.) Meh
Reviewed by: Photoguy

The main reason we got this is so that we would have a good quality speaker phone (old speakerphones were not good). The headset quality is fine, but the speakerphone quality is just not quite there. Especially if you contrast this to the built-in microphone quality on some of our computers, this is really not good at all.
On the plus side, it automatically hangs up if you're on speakerphone after the other person hangs up, so that's convenient. And other than that it's a decent phone.
29.) Telephone versatility

I bought this for business conference calls from my home office. When pressing the mute button to mute a call, it beeps on my end, and clicks on the receiving end. 32.) Everything is good except the speaker phone
Reviewed by: M. Williams Denver, Co USA

Nice feature set. Big buttons for dialing. Caller ID. Mute. You can adjust the volume on individual calls as well. It takes 4 batteries to run the lights on the phone, everything else runs off power from the phone line.
My only complaint, and it is a big one, is with the speakerphone. On many calls, the sound level cuts in and out on both ends of the call. The volume gets really quiet, then returns to normal. This does not happen all the time, but enough to be really annoying. Since the primary feature I need is the speaker phone, I cannot rate this product highly.

The first phone I purchased had a speaker that cut out for every other word. I brought the phone back and got a replacement thinking I just got unlucky with poor quality. Unfortunately, the second phone did the same thing.
As long as you do not need to actually talk over the speaker, you may be satisfied with the phone.
The low price reflects the level of speaker quality.
35.) Batteries not included
Reviewed by: Mitch Florida
Rating:
With AT&T and the added cost of buying their products, you would think they would include the four AA alkaline batteries needed for the phone to work properly.
I ended up returning this for a refund. There is a flashing red light on whenever you are using the phone, and the display has no backlight, so you can't use it in a darkened room.
At one time, the AT&T brand name meant something. .now it is just a poorly designed, made in Mexico phone.

Reviewed by: fullbookcase Chapel Hill, NC United States

I started out with brand new Duracell AA 2600 MaH rechargeable batteries in this phone, and so far I have had to recharge the batteries every 10-14 days. Funny thing is, I hardly ever even touch the phone. The battery drain seems to happen simply because the "Call Info" indicator lights up whenever someone picks up another extension in the house. I'm sure all the features work fine and are excellent for the price, but eventually I'm going to give up on charging the batteries and treat it as a dumb phone without any of the battery-operated features (including the speaker phone, which was the main reason I bought it).
41.) Nice phone if it lasted
Reviewed by: M. Scott Western NY

I bought two of these phones at a local Target in May. One lasted about 1 month before it stopped working. Target replaced it and it still works. The second one just quit working (all you hear is clicking on the receiver) after 6 months (beyond Targets return window), so I have to try to get ATT to replace it. I shipped it back today ($10 shipping to TX) for my $25 phone...we'll see what I get back. The warranty on the phone is 1 year. Note that these phones are made for ATT by Advanced American Telephones, a company I will now avoid at all costs.
NOTE: A third phone has now failed after about one year (microphone failed on the handset). I did receive a replacement for the second failed phone and have it in use now but am not confident it will last very long. Pretty disappointing since this phone has nice features.

BUT, the handset never worked and after a few months of limited use, (my primary phone is a cordless, which is kept downstairs), I found that most folks could not hear me very well on the speaker phone either.
I tried taking it back to the store, but their return policy was for <30 days and since it took me longer than that to discover that the speaker phone wasn't very functional, I couldn't return it locally and AT&T warranty agreement wanted me to pay to ship it, so they could keep it for a month to determine its disposition.

Apparently mfg reliability has been cut too much to keep the price down. Decided not to spend more on shipping although its still within the 1 yr warr. so have switched to a line powered model (no batt required) with same features from Cortelco - costs 3X+ as much but seems more rugged so am hoping for better luck.
