We bought this phone for my mother-in-law who is to phones the exact opposite of Will Rogers to people. She never met one she liked. This one, however, has enough adjustment range in both volume and tone, has a simple to operate answering machine and a cordless handset so that she actually seems to like it. It's an excellent phone for anyone who has trouble hearing on a "regular" phone.

I bought this phone for my mother who is very hard of hearing but refuses to use hearing aids. I no longer have to spend our phone conversation screaming and not being heard. My parents are not very tech savy but did not have much difficulty setting this us. They have also called customer service for the phone a few times and found them to be very helpful also.

My 86 year old Gram does NOT like changes. But after her phone from 1970 started falling apart, I talked her into getting a new one. After careful searching, this is the phone I thought would work best for her. It has all the features she wanted and FINALLY she can hear me over the phone. It is simple enough to learn to use, and was a very smooth transition. I highly recommend this phone.

Bought this phone system for my 80 plus yr. old Dad who is very nearly deaf and had tried numerous devices to enhance his ability to hear on the phone. I read all of the reviews and discounted the negative reviews on setup etc. It is very easy to set up, program the phone and get the answering system operational. (takes about 20 min). It is a "GREAT" phone system and even my nearly deaf Dad doesn't need more than 38 to 40 db. I am seriously thinking about one for myself as my hearing has been bad for years and some phone conversations are a challenge. The phone system is expensive, but worth every penny if you or a loved one has a hearing disability.

I purchased the Clarity 5.8 GHz Professional Amplified Cordless Phone Clarity 5.8 GHz Professional Amplified Cordless Phone with DCP and Digital Answering Machine (C4230)for my mother who is deaf without her hearing aids. She was experiencing problems in getting her hearing aids synchronized with a standard phone making it impossible to have a phone conversation with her.
Now with this phone all she has to do is push one button and the caller's voice comes over a clear and loud speaker in the phone allowing her to have a normal conversation.
I wish that I had found this phone years ago.

We got this phone for my mother. She has enjoyed it and it has helped. After a little over a year the batteries are going out. They can't be purchased locally (we tried many stores). You must order them from a subcontractor of Clarity and they are $25 each. We will get them. The phone is worth it but it is a hidden cost one should know about.

I found this phone through my hearing aid provider, "Hearing Best" . Checked it out on line and purchased it on line because it was $40.00 Cheaper. I did give my provider an opportunity to match the price but no respone.
The phone works quite well, with good support from Clarity but is a little complicated to set up. Requires the manual help to complete the job. Has all the functions any other quality phone supports and does provide "high volume with good clarity". The phone works on a multiple phone system with other phones. I purchased the mode with a recorder. It works well but the answering system will not function unless voice mail is removed from the phone system.
I would purchase this phone again if I needed another phone.

Bought phone for my 84 year old mother who is both visual and hearing impaired (and technologically impaired). She learned basic operations quickly and loves the bright lights that flash when there is a message or in-coming call. The amplification booster feature is "too loud" and that is the first time I've heard her say something was too loud in a long time!

My Mother is hearing impaired and has had a lot of difficulty with phones, espcially cordless ones. This unit, with the built-in answering machine, is a major breakthrough for her. The sound is clear and loud and the features are relatively easy to use. The only negative is that the buttons on the answering machine should be bigger to make it easier for the elderly and vision impaired. Overall this is a great phone.

Bought this for my Mother-In-Law, who has problems hearing (she's 87). Everything works great, with one exception. The message delete function isn't straight forward. For old folks, everything should be straight forward! The message has to be playing to delete it. That's not straight forward!

This is a great cordless phone as long as you don't wander more than one room away from the charging station. The range of the phone is my biggest complaint. I literally find it difficult to go more than one room away without loosing reception. For the price, you think they would do something to improve this feature!

17.) Not for the Technology Challenged

I bought the base station and one remote unit for my parents. They are technology challenged, but it's only a telephone, right? Nothing but problems. When it works, it does so as advertised. They finally figured out the volume control. They know which button to push when they notice that they have messages. But the remote handset is a boat anchor. It's maybe 30 feet away and rings when a call comes in, but when they pick it up...nothing. They've had people try to help them with it (I'm 850 miles away) but no luck. So they stuck it in a drawer ($135) and bought a $9 phone at Walgreens. Just great.

Purchased this item (Clarity Professional #C4230, Revision H on August 14, 2009. Received item August 19th. Handset quit on September 26th. The base unit (speakerphone) continues to function. This morning I telephoned Plantronics customer service and explained the issue. CS rep bypassed any attempt to diagnose problem, just advised me to return the phone to their Chattanooga address and stated I would receive a complete new phone. I can't complain about the replacement but I can complain about the shipping cost I'll eat and effort involved. I had reservations ordering this items due to the high percentag of dissatisfied user reviews who had ordered this item and had experienced malfunctions similiar to mine. Also I see Amazon has recently reduced the price of this item. Buyer beware! I got stuck with a turkey!

The power supply needed to be replaced once, a few months after I bought it. Then came the really chronic problems. On many occasions, the phone just plain would not ring. Other times, the ring was intermittent, as though the "ring signal" was being interrupted.
The biggest problem is the handset becoming non-functional. The phone rings, you pick it up, hit the TALK button, and nobody's there. When this failure mode is going on, it's also impossible to get a dial tone. The solution? Pull out the battery for one minute, then set the handset back on the cradle. Then it beeps to indicate it's working correctly.
Sometimes, doing even that won't work, and it's necessary to both remove the battery and unplug the power for a moment.
This is a real pain in the butt. Why Clarity/Plantronics' engineers haven't fixed this is beyond me. Again, this is the third identical phone from them; they have replaced it twice.
This handset problem is now occurring a few times daily, and this is unacceptable. I'm currently searching for a replacement.
Update 7/8/09: I neglected to mention that the Caller ID feature quit working on my current C-4230. LOL
Due to its chronic problems, I can't recommend the Clarity C4230...but I wish I could.

Re. Clarity 5.8 GHz Professional Amplified Cordless Phone with DCP and Digital...
I have been trying to find a contact phone number or way to contact this company for months. I am extremely unhappy with this Clarity phone & would like to return it. The reasons for return are: Box was torn on arrival, appeared to be a used phone, couldn't hear voices properly, could not set the message machine formore than 3 rings; could not use a head phone jack as there is no jack. There were a few other problems I cannot remember them all. I could not locate their return address or phone number easily. My emails to them kept coming back to me. I contacted my credit card company and lodged a complaint. Nothing has been resolved yet,

The phone is well constructed, has lots of features but unfortunately we could not get rid of the static on the line. I called Clarity to find out if we were doing something wrong and they thought it might be the phone itself but the tech support person said that maybe we had too many electronics in the room. I don't think we do but then he said with the amplification, you can hear more static than you might be able to hear on other phones. I've had plenty of cordless phones installed in my house and none had this static problem so I ended up having to return it. My 85 year old mother who would be one of the main people using the phone didn't like the display. I think if you had an area where static isn't a problem it would be a great phone. I wouldn't NOT recommend it, but beware, static could be a problem. Because of Amazon's return policy, I was able to return the phone with no hassles.

We purchased a C4230 base unit plus three C4230HS handset units for my parents in their 80's. They were having trouble seeing their phones, hearing, and we were having trouble hearing them. This is a fantastic system -- when it works. Unfortunately, after 6+ months of troublesome resets (taking out batteries and constantly rebooting) we're pretty much ready to throw it all in the trash (over $500 wasted!). Technical support has never been able to solve the problems that keep arising, but the handsets keep losing signal from their bases. Whenever this happens, the batteries must be removed... including from the base unit handset AND answering machine. It's a royal pain -- especially for someone in their 80's who just want simplicity. I feel so bad having ever put this whole system in my parents home now. Would not recommend buying until you read consistent reviews that these glitches have been resolved.
UPDATE Feb 2010: Clarity replaced the base unit and handset. It works even worse than the first one! The handset is routinely losing "registration" with the base... forcing you to remove and replace the batteries, and then reregister the handset. So after more than a year of struggling to try to make this work reliably, we're tossing over $350 worth of phones. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!

I got this phone for my Grandfather who has pretty severe hearing loss. The amplifier is a joke. His phone from 1972 was louder than this! He could barely hear someone talking, even when they were talking loudly. I have NO hearing loss and thought the sound level was about sufficient when it was on the loudest setting and the booster was on. Additionally, the clarity was quite poor. My Grandfather complained that the voices were a bit fuzzy. Again, not as good as his phone from the 70s. I suggest that you don't waste your time, unless the hearing loss is pretty mild.
