I just cannot stand portable phones either because of their shape or their lack of reception and feedback. This phone is wonderful, and I didn't buy it for an old person! The ear piece is comfortable and the sound quality is terrific. No feedback, no bad reception and you can walk pretty far without losing your signal. I highly recommend this phone for anyone who hates cordless phones!!!

I bought this for my mom, who's over seventy. So many electronic devices have confusing or tiny-print controls, and this one does not. It is also quite satisfactory in all the other qualities of a cordless phone.

This is a wonderful phone! My brother would never advance to using a cordless phone,,can you imagine that in 2008? He moved into a new home from out of town and I had the job of setting the house up for him and I purchased this and set it up before he moved in. He was mad at first , said he didn't need it and to take it back. I just asked him to try it occassionally and if after a month or so I would unplug and remove it. Well we all know what happened next? He loves the phone and had an incident where he needed to be in the dark and in a room away from his corded old standby phone. He had nothing but praise for this phone after this . The sound, clarity, larger earpiece and large buttons were wonderful.He said it is a great product for emergencies such as he had and I finally broke thru his stubborness after all of these years!! Thanks G.E. for a super product. He is disabled with a life threatening illness and it could have saved his life had the situation not been helped by this phone!!!!!! I recommend it highly for anyone especially those with illness, elderly, visual and hearing disabled. I am thinking about getting one also and I am a normal functioning adult,, Just love the phone.The price is very reasonable.

This phone is great! Its not just for hearing/ sight impared people. I am 28 and really like the phone. Its very clear and easily fits on your shoulder so you have use of both hands!!! The only slight disadvantage is that I think the orange display screen could be clearer..the numbers that come up are a little small and harder to read because of the color of the screen.

97 year old Mother had difficulty remembering which button to use to talk and end call. This phone is the answer. One button in the middle does it all for her. Now I just have to make sure she remembers that. :-)
Audio boost an added special feature because of her diminished hearing.
She can even read the lcd window and is impaired visually also. She never could do that before this phone. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs that larger dial pad, also.

I also got a fantastic price so I am extremely satisfied.

Bought the GE - Lifestyles Series - Big Button Cordless phone, for my mother in law. Her old cordless phone had finally broken. She told me she wanted somethig with big buttons so it would be easier to see for dialing. I checked the local stores but didn't find anything. I did an internet search on Big Button Phone and came across this one at Amazon. The price is great and shipping was free. So for about $30 I got the perfect phone. The phone also has features for the hard of hearing too. She is very pleased with the phone.

I purchased this for my aged mother,who lives in another state, since it is difficult for her to get to the phone, and difficult to hear on a regular phone. She had tried about 3 other phones and was very dissatisfied with each one. I read the reviews on tis one and decided it was worth a try... She loves it and th volume is great, it has a great battery life and she is vey happy with it. I can hear her on the phone and she can hear me better than any otehr phone she has. Great product, great price and shipped very quickly!

I bought this for my grandfather- he's legally blind and legally deaf- and he needed a new telephone- he can't get around the apartment like he used to and he kept missing telephone calls! The graphics on this telephone are very cool- large numbers- iconic in a way. AND, it's simple to begin using- I just told him to put in the battery and keep it in the charger for a day before using it. My only complaint is that there are screws to close the battery terminus- hard for an older guy with sight issues to figure at first! I wish that the screw area was a different color, bolder and easier to see. He really enjoys this telephone, the sound control is great, and he's even recommended it to a few of his friends. I hope that this telephone doesn't get discontinued like so many other great basic items do in this 'gotta-have-the-latest-thing-im-so-cool" age!

This phone is the best I've had. Very clear reception. Ringer can be turned off and you can still get calls picked up because of the lights at the base. This was a huge feature for me. I keep the house pretty quiet and I don't need the phone disturbing the kids. The price was perfect. I would have paid more for this phone and still feel like it was a good deal. No complaints.

Purchased phone about a month ago and have really enjoyed using it. It has lived up to it's potential. I'm 70 years old, and can appreciate all the features it offers seniors. Although I am not quite experiencing the hearing loss problems that comes with age yet I do enjoy the ability to see the large readout and use of the big buttons. I highly recommend this product to all ages.

For a low priced phone, this has been great, easy to dial using one hand, fairly easy to read caller ID screen, volume level is good. I only wish for a longer battery life, though it is not bad, but all cordless phones have a too short battery life before it needs charging. I highly recommend this phone, and I have owned and used it for several months without any problem, and it gets used quite often.

I purchased this phone for my mother because she frequently didn't hang the phone up after use. This phone has ONE button to turn off and turn on. No more searching for the off button that is usually very small. This large button has solved the problem. Mom enjoys all the larger buttons.
The flashing light when the phone rings is great. The volume control button increasing the volume so I can hear her and she can hear me.

I think it is a good product for the money.

This was a great choice for my mother-in-law. She has arthritis and had been having trouble getting up from a sitting position and getting to the phone without having to hurry up before it stopped ringing and then I was also afraid of her falling because she would be in a hurry and lose her balance. The large key pads and large talk button was just what I was looking for. I only had to tell her, just hit the talk button when answering and hanging up the phone and it was large enough that it stood out and she didn't have to try to figure out which button to hit. Great phone for the elderly who get confused with too many choices and too much info.

I bought this phone mainly for the style of earpiece I find comfortable on my ear. I does sometimes have a low buzzing or fuzzy sound but I do not use it for long conversations anyway. I like the large and well lighted screen and I.D.

I purchased this phone for my parents for the holidays. They had asked for a cordless large button phone.
The reported back to me that the phone was on the heavy side and in fact much heavier then the other cordless phones they had.
Also, they informed me that the buttons were not that large.
They are keeping the phone but are not happy with the weight.

I would tell anyone who is looking for a really easy to use, clear sounding and sturdy phone to consider this option! I have had mine for about a month and I love it. All but for the lack of a speaker, or my inablility to locate that option, this phone is great. Its reliable, easy to set up and easy to use. Kudos for this simplistic but worthwhile electronic. I am not a senior, but I wanted a no hassle, basic function phone and that's just what I got!

Unfortunately the 'boost' for hearing impaired only acts on a portion of the frequency spectrum, and is not a 'volume boost' of the overall loudness...you are still limited in the volume range to the inherent volume control. It does little to improve audibility for my in-laws (95 and 90 years young). Neverthess, they do not have a fundamental problem hearing with this phone, and my mother in law is getting quite hard of hearing.

I am hearing impaired.
I can hear well while talking on this phone.
The one complaint I have is that when it rings the volume ring is low.
I set the volume on maximum and I still have a hard time hearing it ring.
I tried the different ring tones and still have problems hearing it ring unless I'm right next to it. It doesn't ring very loud.
I suspect the ring tone itself has a high pitch, which is part of the problem. This high pitch is in the hearing range most people lose due to age related hearing loss, so I am surprised the phone ringer is in the high pitched range of hearing.
The large buttons are a plus.
The price for the phone is reasonable.
I have been, and continue to be pleased with the quickness of the free shipment by Amazon on their items.

The GE Big Button Cordless Phone is designed for people who have mild hearing loss and some visual issues. Generally, the phone is fine but its clarity isn't great and people that I am talking to have noted that they can't hear me as well as my standard corded phone. In my case, with mild hearing loss, I hear better on my cell phone (which says something about the phone's clarity). It is 2.4 GHz older technology but I have had no problems with static or interference. It has a 20 dB boost that sometimes distorts the sound rather than helps with clarity. The display and big buttons probably would help anyone with visual problems; it is easier to read than most cordless phones. Overall, for about $30 it is fine - far better than older technology cordless phones but I do not use it as my primary phone.

We needed a new cordless phone with enhanced hearing capability and it seems OK for that purpose. But here's the hitch -- when an incoming call rings it lights up and warbles all over the place but at a very low level of sound!!!!! This for a phone we got to hear better!!!! When the TV is on we can just barely hear the phone ring.

I bought this for my grandmother, and within the first week she dropped it off the arm of the recliner. From a fall of less than 2 feet onto hardwood, it broke the antenna off, and the reception is terrible, even within 10 feet of the base/charger. May have damaged the microphone or speaker. But before the drop it was great! I recommend keeping the bubble wrap on...

The phone arrived in a timely fashion. We had a problem with the ringer and receiving calls for a couple days which we fixed by running the wiring through our caller id receiver. I think that the wires we received were faulty. Other than that the phone works fine.

I bought the phone for my 92 year old mother , but I myself had trouble using it. There is so much buzzing interference sound and for some reason the telephone battery charge seems not staying long . But I just know I did not like the phone myself and the more it will not work with my 92 year old mother who has trouble hearing.

Guess what? No one has a replacement battery pack for this model! In less then a year, the battery is running out as my phone is blinking and beeping and screeching...and after hours online at various places and on the phone....have come to the realization that there is no replacement batteries available. Throw away phone!!!

I read the glowing reviews on Amazon and was thrilled to have found an inexpensive phone for my mother, whose hearing is poor and whose vision could be better. However, the phone has several major flaws, and is a huge disappointment:

First, the phone is very heavy, which makes it uncomfortable to use. My mother mentioned this to me, and I had to agree with her.

Second, there are only three ringtones, all of which are high pitched and screeching, and therefore very unpleasant. My mother was appalled by the tones, as was I.

Third, when I increased the volume so that it would be more comfortable for my mother, I heard my own voice much louder than normal when I used the phone.

As if all those things were not enough, as of today (about the third day we've had the phone) there seems to be static on every channel. The manual does explain possible causes for the static, and I have not eliminated all of the potential causes, so it may be my "fault." However, I do have to wonder why the other cordless phones we have (Radio Shack brand) never suffer from static problems.

All in all this GE phone is, in my opinion, a hunk of junk. Given how little the phone cost I'm not sure it's worth the hassle and postage to return it, but I am very, very disappointed.

The GE big button telephone is a "bust". I purchased two of them and they do not hold an overnight charge. Sometimes the conversation is disconnected with neither of the parties doing the disconnect. I received my Big Button Cordless Phone damaged. The plastic covering on the antenna was broken off. When I contacted the company, they would only replace it if I paid to ship it back to them. The phone was inexpensive and the shipping would have been one-third of the price of the phone. Would not recommend placing an order with this company.
