When shopping for a phone system, I was looking for many specific features: one base with multiple cordless headsets, call conference ability, intercom, lighted display/keypad, speakerphone on each handset, and headset jack. I've discovered that most phones that have these features usually have a built-in answering machine, which I didn't need. If I wanted a phone system without an answering machine, I was disappointed to find that I would have to sacrifice some of the features I wanted.
Then I found this phone system, and after some consideration, purchased it. Having used the phone system for a month now, I have been very pleased with its performance, not to mention all the features I've been looking for but without the answering machine.
Calls are clear from any place in the house and outside in our yard, the intercom system has come in very handy in our two-story house (no more yelling our daugther's name to get her to come downstairs), and the batteries seem to last a long time. I work from home, and am on the phone a number of hours per day, using an attached headset (which is not included in this system). Speakerphones, found on each handset, are loud and clear.
Other features that have proven very useful are the "global" address book (add a name/phone number on one handset and it will show up on the others), and the "quiet time" setting (handset will not ring during specified hours of the day).
I am very satisfied with this phone system, and highly recommend it. In fact, we are about to purchase an additional handset to expand it even further!

This phone system is just perfect. Small, lite weight handsets.
The bases' and AC adapter (very small) are also small and lite. Sound quality is clear (have not gone but 25-40 ft .from base). LCD on the handsets are large and bright. The intercom is nice. (a toy so far for our 4 year old). AAA NiMh batteries. That means a low replacement cost when that time comes. Program one phone with a ph. no. and all are synced. Lighted key pad.

Ok...here's the scoop. I am a review nut...I look at Consumer Reports first...then I look at Amazon...then I look at the product at the store. Let's say I am thorough.
Great design, clear controls, clear display and great sound. I could go on...but I won't. Maybe you could get a phone with similar qualities but you will not find one that is better.
If the price works for you then this is exactly what you want in a cordless phone.

We've have Panasonic cordless phones for years, and worn a few out. This newer version is very nice in that is has a great range and it doesn't "step" on the household WiFi. We especially like the fact that programming any one phone is propagated to the others and other than the base unit, no phone line is required for the companion units. Custom ring tones are a neat little feature. Overall we are very happy and the only issue we've had is just in the difference of programming/operating the units as compared older models. It's a learning curve...

We needed to replace our old 2.4 ghz phone as it was the victim of one too many drops onto the hard floor. Plus it was interfering with our wireless network, and you couldn't use it at all if the microwave was turned on. We've always had good results with Panasonic phones in our house, and I wanted to add a few more handsets, plus solve the interference problem once and for all. We already had an answering machine, so this model fit the bill perfectly. After almost two months of daily use, our family of 5 is very pleased with this purchase. Good sound quality, reaches all points of the house and our backyard, and programming one phone programs all the others.
UPDATE:11/3/09--Still loving this phone, no problems whatsoever, and just got the same in silver for my mom's use. The locater button is great for finding the phone when the teenagers leave it away from the charger, BTW!

I reviewed cordless phones for 5 days before finally deciding to buy these. I've had no problems and they work great. Reason for new phone is my elderly mother is hard of hearing and could not hear us on our Uniden phone. I thought possibly there could have been some interference with our router. I had had our phone lines checked in the house and there were no shorts. My Mother can hear us and is so glad we got new phones. My 5 yr old loves the intercoms on the phones and uses them frequently, possibly too much :o) I'm able to walk outside to feed the horses some distance from the house and still have great reception and clarity.
7.) I can't seem to go wrong with Panasonic cordless phones

Have had this particular set for two months now, so can't speak on long-term, but so far, excellent!
I have used many different brands of cordless phones over the years, and their reception or battery-life always failed, way too quickly. However, the Panasonics have stood the test of time. I still use my Panasonic KX-TG2622 2.4 GHz Digital Cordless Telephone with Dual Handsets on my ooma VoIP system second line, and I use this newer set on my ooma primary line. This model is an improvement on the other because it has a headset jack, updates all handsets simultaneously, and does not get as grungy-looking, but the older set has served us for 3 or 4 years with absolutely no problems.
Pros for the Panasonic DECT 6.0:
- great color, black or grey
- buttons labeled with good contrast for those with low-vision, and numbers on screen are very large
- lightweight
- lighted keypad
- headset jack
- ringer volume range
- great reception
- battery life
- expandable
- my callers don't even realize they're on speakerphone
- ability to intercom another handset
- ability to put a call on hold, pick it up on another handset, and the first handset is disconnected automatically
- no interference with anything in my household, including my wireless network, even though the base is sitting right next to computer/modem/router/etc.
- program or edit a number in the memory of one handset, and it will update them all simultaneously
Cons (minor):
- Why does Panasonic not seem to understand that a simple ringer on/off button is so much better than surfing the menus?
- viewing missed calls could be made simpler, though it's not as many menu clicks as it is on my cell phone
- still has a limit on the phonebook of only 50 numbers
- ringer choices
- I tend to inadvertently hit the Talk and Off buttons which are right below the difficult-to-see softkeys when I want to use a softkey feature
- like my older Panasonic, the handsets do not seem to be designed for comfortable long-term use, though this one is more comfortable than the other.

I have only just received and begun using this phone, so I can't yet fully comment on its performance. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box to see that Panasonic has chosen to incorporate sustainable design practices. I do not work for or market Panasonic--just like their choices. Packaging was minimal, yet secure; this EnergyStar product uses 59% less power consumption than Panasonic's 2005 model; supplied standard AAA batteries are rechargeable; and the phone does not include lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium and several flame retardants. I urge suppliers to call out specific "green" features, and encourage consumers to ask for and support manufacturers who help us reduce consumption.

They're attractive; were easy to program; have all sorts of features like caller ID, speaker, missed caller ID, etc.; have excellent sound; and work anywhere in the house and even outside. A further advantage is that each handset requires easily replaceable AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries rather than an expensive and often hard to find proprietary battery.

I've had this set of phones for a few weeks and love them! Programming and use is very easy. The clarity is great. The lettering on the display screen is large so easy to read. The best feature in my opinion is that all the phones are connected so if you add an entry to the phone book on one it can be used from any phone, and if you clear a caller ID number from one, it disappears from all. One feature on this set is that you can program in the voicemail account from your phone service provider so that a light on the phone flashes if I have a voicemail (you still also get the beep before the dial tone, but because I don't think to pick up the phone to check, it's very helpful to me to have a flashing notice in plain sight). Best set of phones I've had. My only complaint, if you would consider it one, is that this set did not come with enough handsets so I had to buy a couple more separately. It was a simple process to "connect" the additional handsets to the main phone and now they work just like they came with the set. Would definitely recommend this set. Even purchasing the extra handsets separately, I believe this set is a reasonable value.

I wanted a phone system that did not have an integrated answering machine and this was one of the few items available on the market that met my needs. The speaker phone option on the handset works superbly well; crisp and clear audio. The system is expandable to additional handsets. This system replaced our current system, with which we were displeased; that system had replaced yet another one with which we were displeased. The Panasonic DECT is finally what we were looking for. It has good range. We can talk all over our house, including in the basement, without static. The sound is great. Both of our previous units failed in one or both of these areas. Possibly the best feature is that this unit has a central phone book. You add a name to the directory from any phone, and it is available from any phone. This is such a no-brainer, but very few units actually have this feature. Also, when you clear the "new call" log from any phone, it clears from all. The only down side, and it is really not very significant, is that you must spend a few minutes with the manual in the beginning to get it set up properly (particularly if you want to enable automated access to your phone company-hosted voice mail). Once everything is set up, though, using it is a breeze and very intuitive. We are completely satisfied with this system like we have been with no previous phones. It is also expandable. In fact, we are planning on purchasing one additional phone shortly.

I live in a 3-story urban townhouse and needed a phone plus intercom for each floor. This Panasonic serves every necessary function without a built-in answering system--which is difficult to find nowadays because I prefer a separate answering machine. The base unit is on the 2nd floor with the two extra handsets on the 1st and 3rd floors. The sound quality is perfect everywhere in the house, even out of the house across a wide avenue; however, it will sound distorted if the volume is too high. The many other features make this phone an excellent buy--provided you aren't someone who chooses a phone by its variety of ringtones.

There wasn't a whole lot out there that fit this criteria but then I came across this one. It has a global address book which is a huge nice to have. Inevitably with our old set whichever phone we had, didn't have the number we wanted. It also uses rechargeable NIMH AAA batteries so if any of them die I can get replacements w/o having to find some proprietary OEM or aftermarket battery. The sound clarity is good and I haven't had any range issues in my house. Haven't really used it too much outside since it's winter but I'm sure we'll get good outdoor use come spring. This is the third panasonic cordless I've owned and have had good luck with all of them. Definitely worth checking out.

I say so far because it's only been a couple of months, and in my experience the real Achilles Heel of any cordless device is the battery recharging. So far, we've not had one of the handsets run out of power, but I won't make a judgement on the battery behavior until I've had them a year. My last set were non-DECT Vtech phones, and the batteries stopped holding a charge after only 6 months.
So far, I'm very very happy with these. I wanted cordless phones that had reasonably good controls, caller id with at least some custom ring capability, and did _not_ have an integrated answering system (my phone service has one, and I prefer to use that).
The display is large and clear, the buttons are easy to use and backlighted well with nice large digits. The built-in directory is easy to program and shared between the handsets (the Vtech sets had to have the directory on each handset programmed separately - a pain). The custom rings are limited and not especially pleasing to my ear, but they are not obnoxious, and sufficiently distinctive that I have been able to set up rings so that I can tell family, friends, and others apart.
The in-handset speakerphone is very good - no one has complained about having trouble hearing, and the speaker volume is quite good.
I have not tested the range to failure - any handset works anywhere in my house and in all the nearer parts of the yard that I've tried, but I have not attempted anything all that far.
43.) Works Well For VoIP
Reviewed by: Insufferable Know-it-all
Rating:
It has a frustrating menu structure, but this phone system works well and includes design functions that are important and often ignored by other companies.
THE GOOD:
If the number of the person calling is entered into the phone book, Caller ID displays the name as it appears in the phone book. This is such a no-brainer it's a wonder why it needs to be called out, but companies like Uniden and AT&T can't seem to grasp this concept. If you like seeing your friends' and family's cell phones show up as "Wireless Caller," get a Uniden or AT&T. If you want to see their names then get a Panasonic. (I think Vtech may also design this correctly.) Phonebook entries are shared among all phones, which may or may not be what you are looking for. For me it's a great improvement over Uniden's last design which required one to periodically "synchronize" the phones' address books.
Dedicated function buttons include Talk, Off, Speakerphone and Flash. The three soft keys display useful functions while in different modes. While on Standby the soft keys display Address Book, Menu and Redial. Pressing Talk displays a Voicemail soft key. The Mute and Hold buttons appear while making a call. For the most part basic operations on the phones are intuitive.
The system recognizes VoiceMail signals on both traditional phone lines and VoIP systems and an amber LED blinks on the handsets when there is a new message. Sound quality -- both incoming and outgoing -- is good and the range seems reasonable for a DECT phone. The handsets have large, readable displays.
Another nice function: Pressing OFF while the phone is ringing silences the ringer. My last (Uniden) phone did NOT do this but it has been included on every Panasonic cordless I have ever owned. I didn't know how important this feature was until I didn't have it and I'm glad to have it back.
THE BAD:
The menu functions are poorly designed. Example: Pressing Menu shows the first Menu item, Caller List. Entering this list doesn't show the most recent caller; you have to scroll up or down to see the list entries. Three button-presses to simply see your Caller ID log ... not good. Nearly all the menu functions are like this.
The phone is a bit large. While this is an acceptable trade-off for a readable display and dedicated buttons, some functions are squandered. While in Standby mode the Up and Down buttons both bring you to the same initial menu choice, Caller List, which is already available via the Menu button. While the phone is ringing you can adjust the ringer volume and while you are on a call you can change the speaker volume, but these functions are buried deep in the menu if you are on Standby.
You can't name the different handsets, something I miss from my Uniden phones. The handsets are self-named 1, 2 & 3.
THE UGLY:
There is no getting around it; the ring tones are perfectly awful. The chip providing the ring tones seems to come straight out of the 1990's.
Also, to make up for the poor menu structure the manual provides "Feature Codes," multi-number shortcuts to "quickly" change to different functions. I'm going to remember that pressing Menu-#-2-3-8-0 turns off the sleep function or Menu-#-1-6-5-1 turns on the key tones? Not likely. This feature is so 90's it's almost quaint, but it is also about as unintuitive as it gets.
IMPRESSIONS:
In some ways Panasonic is just not doing much innovation. The menu structure, the ring tones, the "Feature Codes" -- they all seem like they were developed in 1995. In other ways Panasonic got it right the first time and doesn't need to change. The sound quality, dedicated buttons and the intuitive layout of basic functions all work well. I'd like to see Panasonic's designers create a more updated phone but not at the cost of what they are doing right. It's not sexy and it's not perfect but it does a decent job on the basics and provides some nice additional features that other phone manufacturers neglect.

Update 30 Dec: Have now had the phone about three weeks and things are looking up. Battery life has improved noticably and the range issue is not a problem now that the base unit has moved to its final location. Obviously still some issues with how the software interface requires an excessive number of inputs to get to various functions, but that gets better as you learn the system...still can't comment on reliability since I haven't had the phone as long as some other reviewers who posted good early only to have reliability problems later on...time will tell...but for now, this phone improves from 3 to 4 stars...
We've had these phones in the house about a week. I have begun to notice issues with range, although that may be related to where our base unit is currently located. I'll be moving that in the next couple weeks and will update this part of the review then. However, it is fairly centrally located now so I am a little skeptical a new location will improve the range dramtically. This phone also requires numerous actions to get to the most frequent of features such as voicemail and caller ID. One would think that when you have a voicemail, the voicemail softkey would be on the main screen--it's not--so three keystrokes to get your VM. And if you want to dial voicemail when you don't have a message--4 key strokes. Also, three keystrokes to get to your caller ID list anytime. This may seem trivial, but after a while, you really miss the one-button dialing we had on our old phone to get to these primary features. Quality seems okay for now and we do really like the headphone jack and belt clip for handsfree use that we didn't have on our other phones. Battery life is good, but nothing like the tech data claims. Overall, we're statisfied, but we don't use our landline all that much. If you're tired of looking, try these. If you're just starting your search, I'd consider these but there may be better phones out there.

Once you store in a number in the phone book on one handset, it is automatically saved to the other 2. The sound quality is much better. The range is better allowing me to carry it to the basement. Don't know how far you can go outside - it's too cold!
So far, the only negative is that the base unit projects from the kitchen wall jack which makes it difficult for easy access into a storage cupboard. The unit doesn't have a long enough cord so that it could sit flat on the counter. We live in an 134 year old home where outlets and phone jacks are few and far between.

What can I say - it does what it's supposed to do. My only real complaint is that it's difficult to use the intercom - too many button presses, and it doesn't seem that the caller can use intercom via the speaker.
However it's a good phone, has much better range than the previous phone (I have the base in our basement and phones can be used all over the house which was not the case with our previous one).
I would recommend the phone.

The call quality and range of this phone set are excellent, the price is good, and they are attractive. However, the menus and controls are extremely non-intuitive as some other reviewers here have said. For example, getting to your Caller ID list takes several steps. Another minor flaw is that the voicemail indicator light is on the backside of the phone. So, if the phone base is elevated and up on a shelf, for instance, you don't see it blinking. If you walk directly up to the phone, you can read that you have a new voicemail, but it would have made much more sense to put the light on the front so you can see, at a glance, that you have a voicemail. Who knows why they did that. All in all, though, these phones are great.

This is very good set of cordless phones for those who don't need an answering machine. The handsets are neither bulky nor small. They are a little larger than some mobile phones. The keys on the phone are also ergonomically designed.
The phone range has been good, although my house is not that big.The audio level is not high(at highest volume setting) enough while using the earpiece, but is decent in speakerphone mode.
Battery life is pretty good.
The weak point is the user interface menu design of the phone. It is as if the phone is a mobile phone with 5 to 6 levels of nested menus.
There are smaller quirks in the user interface design. If there are missed calls, you have to press 3 or 4 buttons to find out the caller id of missed calls.Same to find recent calls.
Good things are: shortcut to access Voice mail, Voice mail indicator light, shared phone book storage.
Overall, very good value for the money.

I haven't used the phone for that long. Curious to see how long the batteries last. As far as the batteries holding the charge, so far they work very well. The only thing that is a little awkward is that sometimes you get an echo effect on the earpiece. I don't know if the person at the other end has any problem hearing me. No one has complained about that so I'm guessing it is only on my side.

Like everything else these days, this phone is made in China. I bought it for $15 more at Best Buy because Amazon.com refuses to disclose the country of origin for the products it purveys. I read all the reviews and have been happy with previous Panasonic phones. This phone, however, is difficult to use and the manual is close to impossible to understand. You basically have to set it up by trial and error. The worst thing, though is that the sound quality is terrible. I hear a constant sound in the background. Panasonic "help" wasn't much help. They gave me some suggestions and said if that didn't work I should send it back to them and they would replace it with a reconditioned phone. This was after I had the phone for 1 day...they would replace with a used one. This will be my last Panasonic!
63.) A Phone with a Big Oversight!!!

There are two models of this Panasonic phone. One with...and one without a built-in answering machine. Since I, like many others, use my phone company's pre-packaged answering service, I figured I'd save a few bucks and just get the basic "phone only" model. Big mistake!
I incorrectly assumed that the "phone only" model would include a "missed call(s)" blinking light indicator or some kind of obvious clue that calls had been received by my service provider in my absence. There isn't unless you count the MENU screen message that dimly states "Missed Call(s)" in black letters against an unlit dark grey background! Beware!

Phone works okay (except for one problem) and is easy to set up.
The one problem is the "Missed call" indicator. It seems to record each and every call as "missed" whether it was answered or not. This isn't a huge problem, but a PITA. I called customer support, which tried to convince me that it was working as intended. They said that it was a call indicator (i.e., a call log) rather than a missed call log. I told them that their documentation says otherwise, but my CSR just kept repeating herself. I was supposed to be included in a post-call survey, but I guess my reaction to the CSR convinced her that she was unlikely to get a favorable rating, so my call was dropped.
Good phone for the money; support is laughable.

I bought this phone b/c I was having trouble finding an expandable set without an answering machine. The reviews were relatively good. They were easy to install and seemed to work fine at first. However, one of the handsets turned out to be faulty. The phones work fine to call out, but the person on the other end could not hear me. After troubleshooting the batteries, bases, other handsets and a call to Panasonic it was determined the handset mouthpiece wasn't working. These phones are only 12 hours old. To fix it will require ME to PAY to ship it to the manufacturer and wait 10 days to get a refurbished repacement (provided it actually comes back). I'm very disappointed in Panasonic customer service and will look for new phones. When you spend this much money on a NEW product, I expect it to work and then to make it worse, I have to spend more money to get one that hopefully works. Wouldn't recommend Panasonic.

What a big letdown. All the marketing hype about DECT 6.0. The problem is the range. Works great around about half of our average size 2300 sq ft house. Just walk to the bedroom to sound like a robot. Maybe that's a feature. Also, the stands are ultra cheap, lightweight plastic. Our 10 year old cordless phones were much better and felt more solid. Also, terrible ringtone options. It can't add that much to the cost to throw in a couple more ringtones.

I wanted a phone with no answering feature, which this lacks. Call quality is good, but to do the simplest thing, like change the ringer volume or look at missed calls, requires scrolling through menus to reach what you want to do.
Also, it does not always recognize there is a voice mail from my phone service provider.
The screen is large, but so are the pixels they use. Looks a bit jagged. And the caller ID shows less characters than my Uniden did even though that one has a smaller screen.
The light on top, which shows a voice mail waiting, is also lit when charging-confusing even though voice mail blinks and charge is steady. And it's way too small and blinks too slowly.
The ringer tone selection is meager and the ones available are not very pleasing.
This one is going back. It seems like they just went through the motions when designing this phone.

Features of Panasonic DECT 6.0 Expandable Cordless Telephone with 3 Handsets (KX-TG6413T)
Engineered to work in 1.9GHz frequency, Panasonic's DECT 6.0 phones won't conflict with common wireless devices such as 2.4GHz routers, wireless keyboards and mouses, microwave ovens and other household items. And because it's digital, you'll enjoy long range and clear sound while deterring eavesdropping.Store the caller ID info of any and all unwanted callers into your phone's call block list so that you can eliminate future pesky calls from them. After their information is stored, they'll get a busy signal if they call you again. Now you can program each handset to ring or not at your discretion. For example, before you go to sleep, set the bedside handset to silent mode so that it won't ring for the duration of your slumber. In the meantime, the handset in another room is unaffected, and rings as usual.
