If you like its features, you'll probably like this phone a lot. It's the best I've owned during the past 30 years. Considering my own relatively basic tastes and needs, I especially like the following:
* simple yet elegant design
* large display, with large text and good lighting
* a very usable speakerphone option
* a dedicated phone book button and handy joystick design
* a phone book that auto-transfers to all handsets
* automatic sleep mode for night-time silence
* generally easy programming even for klutzes like me
* an answering machine with mindlessly simple operation
* and most important, great sound quality and reception
But I don't like these:
* the lack of a ringer on-off switch on the handset
To be fair, though, few phones have such a button these days.
* the fact that I had to return my first unit
The first unit I received had a lot of background static and a slightly skewed visual display, but I'm glad that I tried another. The second unit has crystal clear sound and all looks good. If you notice either of these probs, I'd suggest trying another unit.
You know, it's just a phone, but I'm thoroughly satisfied after a month's use. Great phone, fair price, and reliable Amazon service even when a problem arose. Can't beat that.
UPDATE AFTER SIX MONTHS' USE: No surprises, no regrets. I stand by my review fully. In fact, I recently bought the 4-pack model for my elderly parents, and they couldn't be happier. They especially like its simple, attractive design and its large, bright display. What most impresses them, though, is the handy speakerphone option, which they use exclusively. For anyone with reduced hearing (or tender ears or busy hands), the loud and clear speakerphone could be a primary draw.

We are delighted.....excellent quality and excellent price, what more could one ask for?

This is the best cordless set that I have ever had.
Pro's
-Good build quality, nice weight.
-Buttons have a nice tactile feel to them (I hate those phones that have mushy buttons)
-Call quality is good (even in my Condo where there are 5 Wi-fi routers in range)
-nice screen
-good features
Con's
-Minor learning curve for some of the extra features, nothing the hand book couldn't solve. (plus easier than most phones)
-Wish 'Off' button said 'End' like most cell phones.
Overall this is a great phone as I mentioned before. I will probably be adding extra handsets in the future. Seems like this phone was worth the premium paid, Panasonic makes a good product.

This phone is one of the few out there that does what it should and more. The quality is excellent, and in this day and age when so much is made so cheaply, and after going through MANY cordless phones, I decided to spend more than planed. I had been to every store imaginable and was dismayed by the cheap offerings, poor quality, and little selection. I'm glad I stumbled opon this phone. It is excellent! It is well worth the $$. It had some unusual ways it operates as to the cheap phones one may be used to , but it is inherently easy to learn, as it is more thoughtful on how a real person would use the phone , and is not confusing. It has too many great features for me to list.. just buy it! You'll be glad you did!

I've struggled for several years finding a portable telephone that works with my digital hearing aids. Even other DECT 6.0 phones would give feedback, or I just couldn't hear clearly with them. (I have Telecoil settings on my hearing aids, but most phones just don't provide clear enough/loud enough sound). These Panasonic phones are perfect for me - clear, loud sounds when I use Telecoil settings, and the other features make these phones a 'best buy' for me. You do have to read the manual a little to figure out how to pair the phones to the base. I find the menu system to be intuitive and being able to setup unique ring tones for your caller list is nice. Although it's turned on, I don't particularly like the caller id 'announcing' feature, as I typically look at the display anyway. We use call block for a few of those annoying calls, and overall have been very please with this set (2 phone system). Of course as I mentioned - the big selling point for me is that they work great with my hearing aids.

13.) Best of the Dect 6.0 Phones... And we tried out several!
Reviewed by: Gadget Lover Baltimore, MD USA

Panasonic offers a myriad of choices when it comes to Dect 6.0 phones. We have arrived at these through trial and error. Both the 9000 series and 1000 series failed us; both gave us "out of range" errors often, and the 9000 series would hang up every time we switched from speakerphone to handset. I work from home sometimes on conference calls, so that was completely infuriating and unacceptable. One aside - we purchased the 4 phone set, but otherwise it is the same.
+'s of these (7400 series) phones:
* Good range - still clear walking around our yard
* reasonably clear (though the volume is a bit low)
* voicemail list and voicemail accessible from handset (choicemail - love it!)
* Good other features - offers a headset jack, belt clip, lighted keypad, speakerphone in each handset
* use regular rechargeable batteries, which you can replace very cheaply once they die (get the pre-charged Duracells or Sanyo Eneloops)
* great price
-'s of these (7400 series) phones:
* still not the best sound quality (my old 5.8 GHZ and 2.4 GHZ had better sound)
* terrible navigation menus (especially in this day and age of iphone style interfaces), though the 7400 series is more intuitive than the 9000 series or 1000 series. We like the little joystick navigator once you get used to it.
* Still can't make the volume on the handset loud enough... I ended buying a headset with adjustable volume that seems to compensate nicely.
* No simple speed dial feature (hold a number down), or if it has it, it is too complicated to program (see "terrible navigation menus" above)
* No speakerphone or dialpad in the main base charging unit - you cannot answer the phone if you do not have a handset around.
We chose these over the 6400 series because the 6400 does not have choicemail (ability to select which VM you want to listen to), has a smaller screen, and no joystick to navigate the menus. All in all, a good purchase and the best compromise out there in a Panasonic phone. Not perfect, but certainly better than the others we have tried.
---------
Feb 2010 Update - Phones are still going strong. Unlike the 9000 and 1000 series, no "out of range" errors yet. People never complain about not being able to hear me on these phones, either. It's refreshing. Did find a couple of additional weaknesses:
* The speakerphone in the handsets is not so great. People complain about the sound. If you use the speakerphone a lot, I'd suggest shopping around. I use a headset for hands free and it works great.
* The base doesn't give you much information - no message count, no speakerphone, etc. I think the choicemail and other features makes up for this and makes a message count less necessary, but still a weakness.

We don't use the answering machine, but the phone performance and ease of use is great. The large screen is easy to read, functions are simple to find and use, and audio quality and volume makes it easy to hear. Voice caller id is helpful and, so far, very reliable. We have two units; when we establish settings on one, they automatically are created on the other. I hope we're a long way from having to replace the batteries, but since they are AA, that task will be a snap.

I wish they made more of these without answering machines, but this has been a great phone. Excellent range, tons of features, and Amazon had a great price. I don't use the answering machine because I have VM through Comcast and a 3-mailbox with my Moto MD681. I like that there is an option to check mail from the handset (probably standard nowadays). Also the talk time is pretty good and doesn't take too long to charge back to full. The headset port is also useful. My main gripe is that calls that are not answered on this phone are considered missed (which then results in me having to clear the missed call list every day).

After my last Panasonic cordless phone died (after ten years of faithful service), I knew I wanted another Panasonic. We needed an extra headset for my mother's work table, plus one for my bedroom. This is a terrific set all the way around. The caller ID has the ability to put on "talking" mode, as does the alert for voicemail. While we don't use this, it is a nice option so that you don't have to get up and see who's calling every time you hear the phone ring. The phones themselves feel wonderful in the hand, come with their own well-made belt clips and have good ring options (lots of tones, different volume levels, and each headset has a silent mode). The quality of hearing, as is true with every Panasonic I've ever owned, is clear as a bell. No one has trouble hearing us speak, either, and the buttons are placed so you won't hang up on anyone accidentally. These are sleek phones and the base fits in tight spots (especially the secondary one). My mother and I are very happy with our purchase- it was worth every cent. FYI- You can use it with your own voicemail purchased through the phone company instead of the one on the phone itself.

So far this is the best cordless phone we've ever had. We had a Uniden DECT 6.0 phone previously (handset was left out in the rain, hence our need for a new phone). Clarity wise they are about the same. This Panasonic has a little louder speakerphone, which is a plus for me with conference calls. The screen is pretty ginormous, at least compared to the Uniden and I see that as a plus.
But the range is better on this phone then the Uniden. I can go about 20 feet farther then I could with the Uniden without any cutout or static. It never was constant static with the Uniden but rather a in and out type and that isn't happening with this phone.
I was a little surprised to see this phone is Energy star compliant because honestly, how much electricity can these phones take but it's a plus if you are trying to save the environment one phone at a time, which may be weird.

Replaced my Panasonic 5.8Ghz phone with the Panasonic 6.0 DECT KX-TGA7432B because I thought the 5.8GHz was going bad. Found out after the fact that the problem was the phone line on AT&T's side. Now both phones are working great so I can do a comparison. I think the 5.8GHz sounds a lot clearer. The DECT phone sometimes has a hiss in the background or I can hear my voice echo back during the conversation. The DECT has more features. I especially like the call block where you can add the phone number of people (usually telemarketers)and when they call they will get a fast busy signal, but you will still see the number come up. The display will read 'Blocked Call'. I also like the joystick to manuever through the menus. What I don't like in the redial menu is you have to delete each number individually from the list instead of deleting all of them like you can the received call list. I also like the answer machine feature where you can select which message you want to hear or delete instead of having to listen to all of them or skipping each message one by one. I also have the phone connected to my Brother fax machine TAD output and I have no problems with it answering having the fax switch when it detects a fax tone. (hint if you connect it to your fax either leave a 5 second delay in the beginning of your outgoing message or make your outgoing message under 10 seconds). It also has a Silent Mode where you can set the handsets not to ring during certain times of the day or night. It also has an alarm. I have had Panasonic cordless phones and answering machines since the 900Mhz and analog tape days and have been very satisified with their products. I do wish it had a message counter on the base station and a room monitor on the answering machine like the analog tape machine did. The battery life isn't the best, but I like the fact it takes regular AAA rechargeable Ni-Mh batteries you can buy anywhere. The phone has uses a timer for recharging the batteries and when they get low it says "please charge batteries". You have to use the phone to charge the batteries, becuase of the timer. If you charge the batteries in a battery charger and put them in the phone, it will still tell you to charge the batteries because it doesn't sense the voltage after it needs recharging. (I thought I would keep an extra set of batteries charged on my LaCross battery charger and when I inserted the newly charged batteries I still had to put the handset on the charger for 7 hours so it would know it was charged.) Overall this is an excellent phone and it other than a few minor negatives, it will last for years.

I know some people like the little joystick on the phone, but I would have been happier with just a button. The biggest complaint would be the sound when talking. It's O.K. but not great. I do like the speakerphone, and the answering machine is definitely loud enough. Also, I think the battery is a little short compared to my last phone which was only a 2.4 Ghz. I do realize that you many times can't find all the features you want, so you have to take the not so good with the great. Overall I would recommend this phone.

These two phones work great for me! They are well built and I love the fact that each hand set has a speaker phone option built in! The LCD screen is easy to read and allows you to view menu items in multi-item page format or, for those who need the characters on screen even larger than the rather generous multi-item character size, you can easily switch to single item view where each menu item is displayed even larger and can be scrolled through by simply using the built in directional joystick control. The orange light-up keypad makes dialing in dimly lit rooms a breeze and the size and slightly bubbled out texture of the number keys is comforting. Signal strength and sound quality are good, but touch lamps seem to cause a crackling interference at times. Despite that minor issue, the signal navigates around walls and between floors just fine. The call block feature is very helpful. When a blocked caller calls, the phone will ring once and then screen will display "blocked call". The blocked caller simply hears a busy signal. The voice caller id feature is a nifty idea however the Asian sounding female computer voice doesn't seem to pronounce names very clearly which renders the feature pointless at times. - Thankfully the voice feature can be turned off if you wish. Caller id will show on screen who is calling in on call waiting which is always nice. However call block doesn't work with call waiting calls. The rechargeable batteries are conveniently AA so you don't have to worry about the fuss of searching for a specific model of battery. Despite the few minor picky points I noted here, over all these phones are well worth their modest cost and definitely get four stars.

In recent years I have gone thru a few iterations of walk-around phones for home use. Every three or so years I like to upgrade to a new "state of the art" model. In general I like Panasonic products and this is a good looking phone, but somehow it seems to be less substantial than my prior SONY 900HZ model, which was heavier and seemed tougher. I felt like I could throw my SONY out the window, retrieve it and all would be well. With this new unit if I did that I fear there would be only plastic granules out there when I try to retrieve it! OK. For now, after a week of ownership, I am still "learning" this new unit. The use of the "joystick" is not 100% as intuitive as prior models' bells and whistles, but this is probably because each new generation of phone seems to want to do more. Pretty soon we'll be able to press a button on our house phone and it will turn on the Mr. Coffee, fire up a warming device in your car's engine compartment in winter and start the bath water. Also, although I am four stars **** pleased with my purchase, this phone actually FEELS like it was made in China (though this particular model was made in Indonesia). Why does this seem to be inevitable these days when our unemployment numbers are in the toilet? Who is globalization really helping besides the leading members of corporate management, their boards of directors and once in a while even shareholders! Yes, today, even buying a house phone has all kinds of socio-economic ramifications and we're sort of pinned down and have to buy what is out there. Good for other cultures who have billions of $1.00 per day workers, and of course those wealthy corporate chieftains who have created a full blown plutocracy out of the good old USA, but not necessarily us, the real people! This is beginning to trouble me more than a little bit. But, as you know, I bought the thing didn't I...

No warning when this happens,You only know when you look at antenna symbol that phone is inoperable. Do not trust this phone-returned phone the next day
Ordered Panasonic corded/cordless phone,KX-TG1062M. Base is corded and works in power outages
and does not have the "cannot connect to base problems". Has almost all features of this phone..Good alternative
49.) Disappointed

I have owned a Uniden 5.8 GHz phone for a number of years. The battery pack in one of the phones stopped holding a charge. I replaced the pack and it still did not hold charge.
After doing my proper research I decided the Panasonic phones seemed to gather the most positive reviews. I was especially pleased that they don't use a battery pack, but rather replaceable rechargeable batteries.
I was immediately disappointed with the feel and performance of this phone. As others have noted, the phones themselves DO feel cheap and not well made. They are lighter than I am used to so maybe that has a lot to do with it. But overall they have a less than solid feel to them.
More importantly I was disappointed with the static sound when using the phone. It's not loud, but it is there and hard to not notice. Others have commented on this too, so I guess I should not have been surprised. But in this day and age I was NOT expecting this.
I have since returned this phone system and bought another Uniden DECT6.0 for about half the price. So far so good - the look/feel is fine and more importantly there is no static-y hiss sound. Just rue the day it stops holding a charge !
50.) Big screen but poor sound quality

I bought this unit after reading a Washington Post Reviewer praise the large screen and good sound quality.
The first claim is certainly true. Wearing glasses, the screen is bright and very legible even without them, which is nice.
BUT, the sound quality is poor, with a lots of static on the highest level, which isn't all that loud.
My wife complains that the unit is hard to use, but she is not technical at all.
51.) Good, but Could be better....and FLAWED

I added 6 phones together and it worked flawlessly. I like the central phone book.
I also like the announcement of who is calling but it takes 3 rings for it to work. Not great.
I don't like the size. I cannot hold it with my shoulder, so I always have to hold it or go to my office phone that is hands free.
I don't like message play it is too low a volume and hard to hear.
My pet peeve is that if someone calls and I want to see who called I cannot use the caller id while the phone is in use. It tells you system busy. I had a $10 phone that did this and I cannot forgive this flaw.
52.) Overrated!

While the phone has excellent sound quality, the feature set and ease-of-use are very disappointing for the following reasons:
1) The menu navigation feels like something from 1995. It's clunky, very unintuitive and the display, though large, is very low-res and looks cheap.
2) The phone itself is boxy and feels cheap.
3) Location of the headphone jack is very inconveniently placed on the lower-mid left side, making it difficult to hold and dial when you are using the headphones.
4) The keys are not easy to press. Again, feels cheap.
My wife has an Uniden and it's a great phone (I got this one so that we wouldn't mix up our phones)...wish I had gotten that instead.
53.) Not wall-mountable

Really love the design of this phone. Looks great and the joystick seems much better than the normal D-pad. BUT, it is not wall-mountable! Who designs a phone with answering machine that isn't wall mountable? Really disappointed because I want this phone, but I guess I'll go with another model.
54.) Cheap, Very Flimsy - Expected better quality from panasonic

Expected a better product from Panasonic .. Although the image on the webpages looks classy and good .. It very cheap and flimsy unlike the other panasonic phones I have seen before. Its made out of cheap sub-standard plastic .. looks like a toy phone from Toys 'R' Us .. Mabbe they are cost cutting to compete in the same price space as V-Tech and Uniden !!
55.) Don't buy this phone

I bought this phone for a new home. It worked a few times. As soon as I hooked up my DSL, it simply doesn't work anymore. It worked for approximately 3 weeks and 2 telephone calls and then stopped. I detest wasting money like that! I'd return it, but I didn't save the box being I'd always done well with Panasonic phones and electronics in the past.
