This phone is totally awesome! Great display, lots of bells and whistles. If you have ever owned a cordless phone before, and the battery dies, so you open the back of the phone only to find a "battery pack". You look every where and no one carries "that" battery pack. Well..., finally Panasonic got smart and did something about that. This phone comes with plain old Nickel-Metal Hydride Rechargeable AAA Batteries! No more battery pack! In a few years when the original batteries no linger hold a charge I'll just replace them with easy to find NiMH AAA batteries.

It's amazing what can happen when I follow directions. Set up of the KX-TG6412M was as easy as taking a few minutes to follow the well written instructions. Once set up, the sound quality was, and is excellent. My wife and I were amazed how light the phone felt in our hands...easy to hold up to the ear. Being members of AARP we both love the large, readable display numbers on the screen. We also love the fact that each phone takes 2 triple A rechargeable batteries - what a great cost savings when replacement time comes around. (They are about 1/3 the cost of normal cordless phone batteries) Finally, when the phones are not in use and not on the cradle, they will hold a charge for 11 DAYS! Talk about energy efficiency. Initial rating? 5 stars...very impressed.
3.) Great Value - no pesky answering machine!

Quick Take: If you want a modestly priced, reliable phone without an answering machine, this phone is a good choice. The second handset (KX-TG6412) is also nice for putting a phone where you don't have a jack. (KX-TG6411 is single handset version).
DETAILS:
I am a long time user, and fan, of Panasonic wireless telephone equipment. Until recently, I was using a higher end version of their DECT wireless phones. But I had one frustration - I was unable to fully disable the answering machine function on my higher end unit. If it got enough rings, it would turn itself on. This is the first truly bone-headed feature I have seen from Panasonic. But I digress.
In order to solve my need to NOT have an answering machine, I set out looking for a phone without that feature. To my surprise, an answering machine free phone is very difficult to find! Finally, I came upon this unit. Not only did it not have the feature I didn't want, it was a DECT technology phone (meaning it would get along well with other equipment in my home) and it was made by a brand I liked.
When I got the unit home, it just got better. I was able to register the units from my more expensive Panasonic system with the new base unit, and they worked just great.
Since there is so little difference in the typical price between the dual handset (KX-TG6412) and the single handset Panasonic KX-TG6411T DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone why not spoil yourself? You know you've always wanted a phone next to your royal throne!
One final note. If you are tired of "scammer" phone calls - "auto warranties", "credit card rate reducers", fake "bill collectors", fake "irs agents", fake "charities", and all of the other low life tricksters, this phone is for you. Just add them to the phone's "call block list" and they will be filtered out (assuming you have caller id service). It works much better than that "fake call block" from the phone company that doesn't accept most of the numbers you want to block.

Purchased to replace GE DECT 6.0 phone that was not that great. Have 2 cordless Panasonic 2.4 ghz that are great, love Panasonic products.
This phone system does not disappoint. Big easy to read display, large buttons, reasonably comfortable to talk with though I usually use the speaker phone.
Easy to program and adding numbers to one phone automaticly sends to the other so no need to store numbers on more than one phone.
Uses rechargable AAA batteries, seems like a nice idea will see as the units are used and need battery replacement. Should be easier to find these types of batteries than a phone specific battery.
All in all this is a great set, I have ordered two additional handsets and am very pleased with this phone

Have had the Panasonic DECT 6.0 Expandable Cordless Telephone with 3 Handsets (KX-TG6413T) for two months now, so can't speak on long-term, but so far, excellent!
I have used many different brands of cordless phones over the years, and their reception or battery-life always failed, way too quickly. However, the Panasonics have stood the test of time. I still use my Panasonic KX-TG2622 2.4 GHz Digital Cordless Telephone with Dual Handsets on my ooma VoIP system second line, and I use this newer set on my ooma primary line. This model is an improvement on the other because it has a headset jack, updates all handsets simultaneously, and does not get as grungy-looking, but the older set has served us for 3 or 4 years with absolutely no problems.
Pros for the Panasonic DECT 6.0:
- great color, black or grey
- buttons labeled with good contrast for those with low-vision, and numbers on screen are very large
- lightweight
- lighted keypad
- headset jack
- ringer volume range
- great reception
- battery life
- expandable
- my callers don't even realize they're on speakerphone
- ability to intercom another handset
- ability to put a call on hold, pick it up on another handset, and the first handset is disconnected automatically
- no interference with anything in my household, including my wireless network, even though the base is sitting right next to computer/modem/router/etc.
- program or edit a number in the memory of one handset, and it will update them all simultaneously
Cons (minor):
- Why does Panasonic not seem to understand that a simple ringer on/off button is so much better than surfing the menus?
- viewing missed calls could be made simpler, though it's not as many menu clicks as it is on my cell phone
- still has a limit on the phonebook of only 50 numbers
- ringer choices
- I tend to inadvertently hit the Talk and Off buttons which are right below the difficult-to-see softkeys when I want to use a softkey feature
- like my older Panasonic, the handsets do not seem to be designed for comfortable long-term use, though this one is more comfortable than the other.

I have had this set for almost a month now and can't find anything negative about it (maybe that it is not as aethetically pleasing and stylish as some other models out there but who cares if it works well?).
What I like is 1. has speaker phone, 2. sound quality is good, 3. has Intercom (yeah!! love that one. Can just call my kids upstairs instead of having to walk up the stairs!), 4. has caller block (haven't used this feature yet but like the idea), 5. different ringtones (not as many as the philipps cordless phone but enough for us to choose from), 6. I can unplug the units at night to avoid being exposed to the radiation at night. Some other phones (like the Philipps) can't be turned off unless you take the batteries out of the handsets and 7. doesn't have an answering machine.

I love this phone, I've had it for three months and have no complaints. This phone has a phone jack to be headset adaptable, which is why I chose the phone. The panasonic headset works well with the phone. It has two normal, rechargeable AA-batteries, which is really convenient when the time comes to replace them. It has ring tones that can be assigned to callers. The only fault is that the speaker-phone is very quiet. It took me a month to figure out that the phone needed to be keypad-side-up to use speaker-phone.

This phone has great range and sound quality. The call block feature is great (blocks any toll free or telemarketing calls that I select)! I don't use the answering machine. This phone has one touch access to my insight voicemail--and it tells me on the display when I have voicemails. The verbal caller ID is nice too! My last one you had to manually copy but still a great feature. The call quality is exceptional as i use it with viatalk and it comes in clear. I would usually buy nothing but Vtech....but I found what I thought
I was looking for when I bought a GE two phone set that had built
in Goog 411, that's what caught my eye but I never even used it.
I bought at a K mart store it work for a while...just past the
return date. Then I couldn't get the main unit to work at all...
so all I had was the extension. What a disappointment but that was
my fault because I had read a lot of bad reviews and didn't listen.
Now checking around on line...I found the Panasonic it had very
good reviews and a lot of features (which I still haven't taken the
time to play around with yet) But so far it's great. I think
so many people have voice mail that answering machines are becoming
a thing of the past but it's still hard to find phones without
them.
Any way...if you're looking for this type of phone I highly
recommend it and I've found something to compete with Vtech
Wouldn't think twice about buying Panasonic again.

When my previous phone died unexpectedly I did research on several sites and found that for the most part the Panasonic DECT phones were supposed to be the most reliable. I did comparison shopping and decided to purchase from Amazon.com, who is usually my site of first choice for purchases such as these. The phone were easy to set up. We like having the large display. We don't have Caller ID so even though we have names set up in our phonebook they do not show when we are receiving their call. We are questionning the battery life, because several times the handset that is in the main unit was left out for a short period of time and it told us that it needed charging for seven hours. Additionally, at times the handset in the main unit does not ring; we hear the ringing from other phones in the house. At this time of year, I wished I could have waited to make this purchase as I could have gotten three or four handset units during some of the holiday sales for what I paid for this two unit model. We chose buy the unit without the answering machine as we prefer to keep the items separate. The speakerphone is a nice asset to this unit and is pretty clear when being used.

I picked these up to replace an older Panasonic 2.4GHz phone that worked incredibly well. These phones live up to that reputation. I have been using them for about a month, and I have yet to hear any static or interference on them. The people I call have had no complaints about them either. The speaker phone also works quite well at close range. I frequently put the phone on the desk in front of me when talking on it and have never had any clarity problems with it. I can usually get 5-6 days out of these phones without needing a charge. The phone has AAA - NIMH batteries, so you can replace them very easily and cheaply with ones from any electronics store when you need to.
There are two slight drawbacks to this phone. First, the phone gets narrower towards the top, down to about 1/2" thick. This looks really sleek, but becomes uncomfortable very quickly if you're trying to hold the phone between your shoulder and ear to keep your hands free. The speaker phone, however, makes up for this if you're in a setting where you can use it. Also, the menu navigation has been changed slightly from the older Panasonic phones, and it now requires 2 button presses to scroll missed calls or the phone book. Not a showstopper by any means, but takes a bit of getting used to after using the older phone.

Convenience of a cordless means giving up a little sound quality. I have no idea about any "additional features." All I wanted was a phone for which I could make and receive calls...and I can do that with this phone. I like that it has a "talk" button and an "off" button. Simple is good.

My Panasonic phone that I had for many years finally went kaput so I searched for a replacement. I tried another brand and ended up returning it ( AT&T) and then found this one. 95+% of my calls are clear and the sound quality is solid. For some reason on a few other calls I've had an echo at the beginning of the call. It's very random and isn't just to one particular place. That and the fact that it's made in China are the only negatives I have with the phone. The positives are far greater. The display screen is attractive and easy to see. You can adjust the LCD contrast. You are notified on it when you have a missed call or voicemail (although my old Panasonic had a light up feature to notify you, this one doesn't and I hope they add that back on future models). Two cool features I like are built-in call block (where you add a number you don't want to call you and when they call they just get rapid busy signals) and the ability to intercom call the other handset and have a conversation between the two. Other features are you can adjust the language (English or Spanish), Ringer, key tone, and you can assign a unique ring to different contacts (works fantastic if you have family or neighbors you don't particularly enjoy getting calls from. You can set those with the same ring sound and that way if you are outside working or something and hear that ring, you know don't need to come running.)
I am satisfied with this phone.
*UPDATE* I no longer have any problems with an echo on calls, must have only been a fluke thing at the beginning.

Have not been able to figure out how to program the phones to stop ringing as soon as plucked from handset because the instructions are volumnious but not very well written--go figure. Bad reviews annoy me. Usually it's because the buyer has a hardware problem and tends to berate the whole package. I'm not doing that here. If this phone didn't have so many good points, I would have rated it 2-stars. My vision isn't that good. This LCD is very easy to read. It has an clock/alarm. I missed it in Amazon's write-up, but it may be there. It feels lighter than I'd like, but fit & finish are good. The ringer is plenty loud but the sounds available are very primative. So why 3 stars? I'm returning this package because the sound quality of the earpiece is TERRIBLE. If it was just one of the two hadnsets, I'd just be returning it for a new one. Unfortunately it's both handsets. The sound is very distorted. My son has a deep, resonant voice and it is impossible to understand him without asking him to repeat many, many time. The new Panasonic system is replacing a 5 year old Uniden set that worked fine...until I dropped one of the handsets in the, er, toilet. It'll never be the same. I thought "Great! I'll get a Dect 6.0 setup." I have now spent several days looking for a 2 handset Dect 6.0 w/o an answering machine. Almost all the systems include answering machines-Drat! Also I find that the descriptions almost never mention if there is an alarm or not. I need one.
Bottom Line: For the price, this system can be recommended as the earpiece distortion just may have been my two handsets.
UPDATE!!!
I've purchased a different Panasonic set (still love the screen) model KX-TG7432B. It has an answering machine, I just don't use it. I'm sorry to say the sound quality in the earpiece is just as terrible as the first one, see above. I've kept this one because it has everything else I want in a phone.
Sigh! I'll just have to live with it for now.
69.) Disappointing, but not horrible
Reviewed by: Faustus

I purchased this two-handset model specifically to use with my VOIP service. I needed a new cordless phone, and did not want one with integrated answering machine-- a configuration that is hard to find. The styling may be a little out of date, but compared to my old 900MHz cordless, it's fine. I like that a phone number programmed onto one handset is automatically transferred to the second handset.
Here's the important downside. The sound quality of the earpiece is horrible by today's standards. The good news is that people at the other end of the line tell me that what they hear sounds excellent. The bad news is that the speaker on the handset is so tinny that I sometimes have to ask people to repeat themselves to be sure I understand what they are saying. Some of the problem is mitigated if I turn the volume down a little bit, but it never completely goes away.
Disappointing to have such terrible sound quality from the latest technology. My old 900 Mhz dinosaur, which I bought re-conditioned, sounds better.
Battery life, so far, has been great. Standby time is easily one week, and so far, talk time has been longer than I've needed.
I've only had this one month, so I will try to come back after a few months to follow up.

The volume on this phone does not go loud enough and the sound quality is not what I expected.
I bought this phone because of all the great reviews I saw here on Amazon. Unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. I am giving it 3 stars because, other than my complaint, it seems to be fine. It has a large LCD display, much larger than my older phone, and has seven ring choices which you can assign individually to a person in your phone book. The ringer volume, by the way, can be set quite loud. I had no problem moving away from the base, but I live in an apartment and don't need to be 100's of feet away in a back yard. One great feature is that this uses rechargeable AAA batteries (which are included) so it is universal and batteries will be inexpensive to replace when the time comes to do that.
BEWARE of third party vendors! I purchased this with Electronics Express. NEVER AGAIN. To return it I need to eat their shipping cost, pay a 15% restocking fee, and pay to ship it myself. Plus, they only give you 15 days.
I will try another one of these from a local store where I can return it without penalty. If it has the same issue I will try to file a claim with Amazon.

I needed to replace an old cordless phone that bit the dust after 7 years. I wanted a phone that took regular batteries, and this one does. It's very attractive, fits in the hand well, and is easy to use but the sound quality is not good. It sounds like I am sitting in an echo chamber, from both handsets. Also, it does not have an LED indicator to tell you there is a voice mail mail message waiting, but I should have read the specs better. My only excuse is for the price, I was sure it would include this feature, as other cheaper models do. I am too lazy to return it, but I would not recommend this phone to anyone. I purchased this phone 18 mos ago and have been satisfied but in the last 2 mos the phone cannot hold a charge for more than a day and usually less and is getting progressively worse. A call to customer service got me the response that the phone needs to be put in the cradle after each and every use, which to me kind of defeats the purpose of having a cordless phone. The rep also helpfully told me that if I was not happy with the performance she would gladly transfer me to the part dept where I could purchase new batteries for the phone.
I also informed the rep that I have had Panasonic cordless phones in the past and the batteries held there charges much longer. She informed me that these are newer technology batteries that are much smaller and need to be charged much more frequently and the phones are performing as they are meant to and also the batteries are only meant to last a year.
This is all good info that would have been useful for me to know BEFORE I purchased the phones.
So now you know ...buyer beware.

Pros: Great battery life, easy to use, looks good
Cons: I use the AT&T Uverse VIOP phone system. After around 3 minutes talking on either handset, you hear at click then your voice can be heard echoing back while you're talking, drives me nuts. Also if the 2nd handset is being used, it will drop the call at anytime. The screen states connection lost with the base. You could be talking right next to the base and the phone will go dead and the screen blank. You must place it back on the charger to refresh the screen and make the phone work again. AT&T has been out to check their system, not their system, it's the phone.
Buyer beware, looking for a new phone again!!
79.) Not recommended

While the phone operates reasonably well, as others have noted, the following drawbacks make it unacceptable.
1. Tone generation. Today, when we make phone calls, we are always having to key in our account numbers, or press 1 for English, or some similar operation. The tone generator on this model is unacceptably short and will not activate many response systems. Holding the key down will not generate a longer tone. For that reason alone, the phone must be returned. (Note: contacting Panasonic customer service for assistance with this didn't help; they ignored the question and essentially told me that this was my fault.)
2. Sound quality and volume is below par. If all you've ever known in your short life is the wholly unacceptable quality of cell phones, then you won't notice this problem. If you used land line phones for more years than you used cell phones, then you will hate the voice and volume quality of this phone.
3. As with item 2, cell phone lovers will appreciate the lightness of the handset; however, in this phone, it is simply TOO light, and it is not at all comfortable on a long phone call.
4. If you lay this phone on a table, the phone rests on the convex glass/plastic face of the display. Within a few days, this face will be permanently etched with a scratch in the center of the display.
5. If you make the error that I made--ordering this phone with free shipping via "Electronic Express" instead of directly from Amazon--returning the phone will cost you for shipping BOTH ways plus a 15% restocking fee. I fault Amazon greatly for promoting this phone as a "free shipping" item without making the restocking fee clear.

I keep one handset about 15 feet from the base unit. The battery life is diaappointing, but the very worst thing is that very often, the phone does not ring. If I hear one of the other house phones ring and pick up this handset, I can usually answer the call. About 15 - 20% of the time however, it says that it can't connect to the base unit. I have tried reprograming it to ring, and I tried just unplugging it for awhile and starting over. That helped some -- before I did that it would not ring at all. I wish I could return it.

Just purchased a Panasonic KX-TG6412M Expandable Cordless Phone. I purchased it BRAND NEW, not refurbished. I did my research on this phone and according to Consumer Reports magazine and numerous other websites it was rated very high so I decided this was the one to get. It has a lot of good features that I was anxious to use, like the ability to block certain numbers. I charged it overnight and when I got the first call on it in the morning, I immediately knew the phone HAD to be returned. It has TERRIBLE call quality and sound. It sounds like you are in an echo chamber and the calling party said the same thing plus they said I sounded like I was very far away. I thought NO WAY! this is a Panasonic phone and it is supposed to be one of the top-rated phones so I tried it twice more and got the same results. In fact in the middle of the 3rd call I had to change to a different phone in the house because the tinny, echo sound was so bad that I couldn't stand talking on it.
My previous phone was a Uniden and the call quality was excellent but I thought I wanted a new phone with an extra handset that we could put in the garage so I bought the Panasonic. I would not recommend this phone to anyone and I ordered a new battery for my Uniden. The garage will just have to do without a phone until I find one that has great call quality. Panasonic really disappointed me with this phone.
