I got this to replace a Vtech phone that I'd had for 5 years. The Vtech was fine till I had to place it in my computer room to use the speaker phone and suddenly the range for both the wireless and the phones themselves dropped dramatically and the phone had a lot of noise. These phones (I'm using 5 through the answering machine base) have much better range, don't interfere with the wireless, use standard NiMH AAA batteries. The base is right next to the microwave and it has no problems since the phones use the DECT frequency. I don't know if the talk time as as long as they promised but it's certainly longer than the 1-2 hrs. from the Vtech. The phones have large buttons that are easy to use (unlike the Vtech), a nice uncluttered screen, easy to program and easy to use functions. Consumer Reports rated it a best buy and after using it for a while I completely agree.

I bought the 3-extension base but added this one to replace another cordless phone that had died. Its great having one phone system for the whole house. All use the same batteries and all work well! Having only one base also seems to cut down on the amount of interference to other wireless devices. This extension works just as well as any of the original three that came with the device. Setup was a snap and voice is very clear!

3.) BEST cordless phone EVER

I replaced my 5.8ghz Uniden set with these phones because I have a lot of wireless technology at the house. The 5.8's were all static if you went 10 feet from the base. I use VOIP and the range and clarity for these phones is amazing. I did a number of hours of research on other DECT 6.0 phones and this set rated the best in features and use. The range, clarity, and features are unbeatable by other systems to date.

NOTE: If you use VOIP make sure your gateway is setup behind your router/firewall. If you have it before your router the phones will not work right and will be VERY choppy.

4.) Get 'em! The best, good value!!

I purchased additional phones to bring me up to the six phone limit. This is my initial critique on the first (set of) four:
.
These phones, as the other users have reported, have some foo-foo features like multiple ring tone selections (think cell phone)and a plethora of menu-driven options; that said, however: I am very favorably impressed with their performance as PHONES. They are perfectly clear, having no competition on their 1.9GHz "cordless phone exclusive" frequency. The range isn't as good as my old Tropez DSS phone which died years ago, but these work on 250MW which seems to be the norm these days. Forget the DSS cordless phones that worked a couple of blocks away, they're history. Europe and Australia allow more RF output, but seems as if the good 'ol USA has more stringent FCC RF limits.
.
These phones also have the advantage of requiring 2 AAA Mi-MH instead of a dedicated battery pack. Makes it much easier to: [1]Replace batteries, [2] Have 'spares' aavailable if they go dead.
.
The line-of-sight range seems to be about 200 feet. Put walls and/or (particularly) aluminum siding in the way and it's down to much less. I have no problems within my 4 level 1400sq. ft. shack, however. These are the best cordless phones yet, aside from my 8 year old Tropez, which died several years ago. 2.4GhZ? Forget it! Screws up all wireless connections, P.C., headphones, etc. 5.8 GhZ? Work fine. DECT 6.0 1.9GHz? The way to go!

5.) Phones work; easy set-up

We bought these phones because others that looked just like it, but from a different manufacturer, didn't work well at all. Set up was very easy. Battery life has been good. We've had no problems with the cordless phones not syncing with their cradles (making the phones unusable), which was the problem with our previous phones. You can add up to 6 cordless units to the set, and the answering machine will play through each unit when callers leave messages. Very convenient when answering machine is downstairs and you're upstairs.

I bought this cordless handset to complement my original Panasonic 6.0 Answering System. I can't say enough about this product. Just put in the batteries, plug it in to an electrical outlet and you're good to go. I use this phone in the bedroom. Its very compact, stylish and fits nicely on the nightstand. Very easy to program. When a call is picked up by the answering system, the speaker on the handset turns on automatically and you can listen to the message as its being recorded (pretty neat stuff). I had an ATT System for years, but after using the Panasonic 6.0, I am completely sold.

I bought this product to replace a old Motorola 5.8 system that had lots of problems. The best feature of the system is the clarity of the calls. The keypad is big, well laid out, and easy to use. The phones uses regular batteries instead of expensive battery packs. A feature most people will love is the ability to send phone numbers in the phone book to other handsets. There is a LED on the top of the phone to make the phone easy to find in the dark. We use our phones with Vonage VoIP and haven't had a problem. Our phone's range is around 200 feet with one wall between the base station and the phone. I can take it across the street and still talk on it. I would recommend this phone highly to anyone.

I have had two Panasonic cordless phones previously and loved them. Like most inexpensive electronics, they just eventually run through their life cycle and it's time to replace them. The pros are perfect reception; very good range; excellent call quality; loads of features and tweaks; long talk time; a battery strength meter; excellent built in speaker phone in every handset; ability to synchronize all phone books with just one handset entry; effective intercom system; ability to page someone upstairs or outside after taking their call rather than screaming at them; needs only ONE phone jack, all other units just have a plug-in charger/cradle that uses very little space; simple intuitive menus. The only con is no backlit keypad. My house is now full of them (except one hard wired landline for power outages). HIGHLY recommend these babies!!!

I purchased a 4 phone Panasonic Dect 6 system a month prior and then purchased the single handset to bring the total up to 5 phones. The phones work great. I no longer have to run up and down stairs or shout down the hall for someone else to pick up a call for them. I can just transfer it to a phone in their room/area. The Panasonic Model: KX-TG1033S DECT 6.0 Expandable Phone System is such a great system that we went and ordered another extension. The KX-TGA101s to go with it. We now have 4 of these phones in the house and they are great. We had a 7 or 8 year old Uniden cordless phone that we thought was great, so we bought Uniden again and it was no where near as good as the old phone. Then we bought another model of Uniden. Again, it was no good. Next, we tried GE. Disapointment again. I searched the internet for reviews and saw that the Panasonic DECT phones were good. Wow! It is better than the old Uniden in range. My wife walked out to the road while talking to me on my cell phone. She was able to walk about 150 feet before we started loosing signal. The old Uniden was good for about 60 or 70 feet. The speaker phone function is the best I've ever heard. The phone also has plenty of storage in the address book and caller ID. Battery life is real good and it uses ordinary NI-MH AAA batteries. The intercom function is why we bought another handset. A real intercom system would cost $500.00. This set fills the bill! The negatives: only a couple. There is no speed dial buttons and the buttons do not light up. These are minor inconveniences for a really great phone system! I am totally pleased with this purchase and highly recommend the Panasonic DECT Cordless phones!

This extension should only be purchased as an addition to the base set and the product book is specific about this. I am very pleased with the Panasonic KX DECT 6 series and have just about replaced all phones in my house with them. I have always had interference problems with any phones placed in my computer room. I now have the base unit with answering machine right next to my computer and the phone is a gem; sound is clear and there is absolutely no interference. One of the features I like best is the ability to transfer from one phone to the other. When I entered my Address Book into the phone, I just had to push a few buttons to copy the information from the other phone. When I purchased the 3rd handset, I did the same. When I erase the phone numbers stored in Caller-ID, erases the info from all the phones. I love this phone.

However, the instructions for linking this phone to the base unit only tell you what buttons to press on the base unit. It neglects to tell you that you need to go into the menus on the handset to put it into the correct mode to link to the exisiting base unit. Again, not too hard when you know what to look for, but it would have been nice of Panasonic to tell you...

They call it 6.0, but the gigahertz is really about 1.8, or 1.9, still not interfering with my wireless computer setup. I think Panasonic decided to call it 6.0 so it would sound like an upgrade from the now popular 5.8. Matching the two new ones to my four existing ones was seamless. I got a set of these to upgrade my 10 year old panasonic phones. The new dect technology is excellent, these phones connect loud and clear to the base station in the kitchen from all over the house upstairs and down, and outside on the deck too. This is nice because you can put these phones anywhere, not just next to a phone outlet. This also facilitates using Vonage or another digital phone service, because then you only need to have the base unit near an internet connection. The speaker phone function is loud and clear, and I especially like that you can pick up and listen to messages from any handset. The large buttons are very nice too. Highly recommend.

The integration of all handheld units to access one centralized voicemail, caller id, and phonebook is a great benefit and easy to use.

There is also excellent voice clarity and range of use. My main phone base is on one side of my house, yet reception is outstanding throughout.

A phone system such as Panasonic's is ideal, especially if you have limited phone jacks in your house.

Although these units are not cheap, the functionality makes up for it. Simply put, I am very happy with my purchase.

I had 2 of these for a couple of years and was very pleased with them. One was the answering machine with handset and the other just an additional base and handset. Then I moved and was concerned: I needed another 2 at least for the larger home I moved to. But I couldn't find additional phones at any retailer, whether Staples, Best Buy, Radio Shack or my local electronics stores. However, I did find them online and took the chance that they would work as additional handsets - I didn't believe the system could really expand! But they do work and I'm thoroughly pleased. I have used them up to 50 ft away from their base unit.
VERY Important point: you do NOT need to have additional jacks installed! As long as the charger can be plugged in, with the frequencies this system works on even concrete walls aren't an issue. And ONE jack will do it!

I was looking for a replacement to an old AT&T cordless system of four handsets. I purchased this Panasonic system of four handsets and upgraded by purchasing an additional two handsets. My entire six handset system is great! My family loves the intercom system which allows us to call different handsets within the house for personal conversations. No more yelling through the house! My favorite feature of this system is the handset itself- it fits much more comfortably in my hand and against my ear than our old AT&T system. Plus, there is no external antenna so the handset is smooth and sleek. The only con to this system is that at times while I am talking, it sounds like the phone cuts out but my caller always assures me the sound difference is on my end only so I've grown accustomed to it. The range is quite far - I can take it all the way out to the mailbox which is across the sizeable lot upon which our home is located. I have never had issues with where the base unit is located (atop the entertainment center in our living room) as far as interference, etc. Another great feature is the ability to listen to messages left on the answering unit from any handset in the house - either on the speaker or privately. No more standing around the base unit or dialing up a bunch of codes for voice mail. The LCD display is clear and easy to read, the volume on each handset is wide and varied enough to please everyone in the family, and each handset can choose from 18 different tones or melodies for further personalization. I am very pleased with my purchase, would make the purchase again, and recommend this product to anyone who is looking for just a plain, 'normal' cordless telephone system.

It operates in frequencies that does not interfere with baby monitors, microwave ovens, and other common household appliances. Most importantly, it does not interfere with our Wifi. This is my setup - I paired this device to our Ooma system which is wired to the back of a Linksys wireless N router.

For me, this is a biggie. I really love that it uses "AAA's" batteries (NiMh - make sure not to use regular alkalines) instead of a proprietary battery pack. I was able to use it right away by placing my ready supply of low discharge batteries from Sanyo=-neloop, Duracel or Rayovac.

The charging base uses the same type of AC adapter that is used by the main base so there is no confusion for plugging the correct adapter.

There is not too many useless buttons. Button are big enough for ease of use. Very easy to operate. The redial button stores 5 recent numbers instead of one.

It would be nicer if the bases are a little heavier for stability.

Just a bit pricy compared to competition.

I like the size and weight and the musical choices for ring tones. I got the model with the extra handset and that is nice. You can page the other phone to alert a person outside that they have a call instead of yelling out the window! I like the answering machine.. but .. a voice says "thank you for calling" after the call has ended and the caller has already hung up. What's up with that?

Cons: The keypad has no back light so it's hard to make calls in the dark unless you memorize the keypad. The wall adapter is a laugh. It snapped when I attempted to hang the phone. I called Panasonic and they only wanted 1.89 to replace it.. BUT .. with shipping it was 7.00 and change. That is laughable since the adapter is cheap plastic. I faxed proof of purchase and they agreed to send at no charge.. BUT .. the item is back ordered. I WONDER WHY!! I would imagine that everyone who has purchased this has had the same problem with the 'hanger'.

Having said all of that, I still rate this product a 4 because I would buy it again. They really do need to add a lighted keypad though. Even the cheapest of cheap phones offer that as a feature.

I purchased this to expand on my prior purchase of one base phone and one handset. It is an exact match. I am happy with the phones except for one small detail - missed calls. It will reflect # of missed calls on the screen instead of date and time. Well, the instructions are not clear as to how to remove "missed calls." I think once you look at the number, it should clear, but the only way I have found to get rid of it is to manually clear it by searching the caller ids and pushing a series of button commands to clear it.

All the phones communicate with each other, so you can enter your phone book on one and it will transfer to the other two! When someone is leaving a message on the answering machine, you can hear it come over any of the handsets without pushing any buttons. Fun ringtones (especially for xmas), great speaker phone function, easy to understand keypad and volume adjustment during calls. Great stand by time - it can go over 5 -7 days without having to sit in the cradle for a recharge. The clarity is wonderful and equal to a land line.

If 4.5 out of 5 was a choice, I would have given it that score. If only I could figure out a less time consuming way to deal with "missed calls," it would have gotten a 5 out of 5.

Other than that, this phone system is MUCH BETTER than the Uniden and GE that I had at my other house.

124.) A Fairly Decent Phone
Reviewed by: Cato the Elder San Jose, Costa Rica
Rating:
I've owned the Panasonic Dect 6.0 expandable cordless phone system for about 16 months now. One of my handsets was stolen off of my porch one evening, so I needed a replacement. I can tell you the clarity is excellent, if you don't have too many walls or appliances between you and the base unit. There are nice features included: the speaker phone option on the handset is topnotch. You can flick it on, whenever you're placed on hold, listening to muzak, waiting for your call to go through. Most people will never know you're on a speakerphone if the handset is placed on a desktop in front of you.

If you experience call drops--sudden cutoffs in the middle of a call, you're probably too far from the base unit. If you have concrete walls or the base unit is parked two floors upstairs, this may happen more frequently. Unobstructed, the range is quite good, about 200+ feet. Just remember, this is only a cordless phone, not a walkie talkie.

I like the fact that regular rechargeable AAA batteries can be used. The factory originals are just adequate at 550 mAh. They will last all day with moderate to heavy use. But if you're prone to leaving your phone off the recharger for days and then having lengthy conversations, you'll want to upgrade to high capacity rechargeable AAAs @ 700 to 1000+ mAh. Even so, you should recharge the units nightly with moderate use. The battery indicator does not kid you at all: it's 3 bars when you're topped off. And at one bar, you should make your calls short and sweet or reach for the other handset--which should be on the recharger ready to go. When you do hear the low battery beep, you only have a couple of minutes left, at best. So, don't say I didn't warn you.

The handset locator is your best friend. These handsets are small and easily misplaced or buried under a cushion or papers.

The punch keys are large and easily read. So too, the view screen is very readable. You can adjust the contrast on the screen to suit. Other nice features include: easy retrievel of answering machine messages from the handset, a programable alarm clock, a built-in phonebook, caller ID, and a memory that stores your last 50 calls. Helpful if you forget to jot down an important phone number.

All in all, the phone does what I expect it to do. The one criticism is the quirky nature of occassional dropped calls. Again, proper base unit placement is essential. If you have a 3 floor house, the base unit should be on the second floor. You may need to experiment to get the best range out of this phone. However, I live in a concrete building with multiple floors--so I don't expect much from any cordless phone. There it is in a nutshell; this phone does the job if you don't expect too much from it: like stand too close to multiple active appliances or talk under high tension electricity lines across the street.

I do recommend this phone. The only reason it didn't get a 5 star rating is the lack of a battery back-up on the base unit to keep the phones working during a power outage. Panasonic used to build cordless phones with that very feature. So, they do have the technology but they chose not to employ it in this model. Thus, don't plan on getting rid of all your corded phones. A small point, I'll concede, but it cost them one star in my rating.

125.) Great features, but not a lot of range!
Reviewed by: Glenn A. Jakubowski
Rating:
I have all six handsets now, and I love all the features of these phones, but the transmitting range is shorter than my 900MHz spread-spectrum, and my 5.8GHz phones. If you need a phone with a decent transmitting range, this one's not for you, but it does work good anywhere in my house, just not very far outside, (maybe because my house has steel siding & roof)! Fortunately, I don't need it to work very good outside, I use my other wireless phones when I have to go out to the mailbox while on the phone. It does reach the carport and trash without any problems, and I really like how all the features work together with all 6 of these phones, i.e.: the answering machine broadcasting to all 6 phones when receiving a message, being able to check messages from any of the 6 handsets, and only having to enter my phone numbers into the phonebook on one of the handsets and sending the phonebook, (or just one entry at a time), to any other handset easily! For the features, I would give it 5 stars, but the transmitting range knocks the score down to 4 stars!

Overall excellent. Better reception, clarity, and range than my former Uniden 5.8 Ghz phone (which was also excellent). Speakerphone in every handset is nice. Sound could be louder (although speakerphone is plenty loud); occasionally sounds a bit tinny. Would be nice to have a more built-in memory for phonebook (50 entries is actually not much compared to the memory in the typical cellphone)

Positive distinguishing factors:
- large numbers make dialing easier than other models
- call screening can be heard through every extension handset (via built-in speakerphone), so you an automatically hear the message on all handsets as it is being recording on the base station answering machine
- message waiting indicator on each handset blinks whenever there is a message on the base station *and/or* your remote hosted voicemail (Comcast voicemail plus) - this is cool!

*Lacks* the following features:

I only had one problem and that occurred when I tried to located a phone in my kitchen and for some reason something in the wall blocked the signal and would terminate an existing conversation if you moved with this certain area. Distance had nothing to do with the problem. I solved the problem by not locating a Panasonic phone in my kitchen. Even knowing this problem exists I would buy these phones again.

Only downside is having to press too many buttons to view and erase caller ID numbers/names. Answering machine is easy to program and review messages. This add-on handset worked fine after I figured out that is was already bound to someone else's base station. I suspect this wouldn't have been a problem on a new phone, but mine was a refurb. The previous binding had to be cleared before a new one could be entered. The process to do this was not in the manual for the handset. Neither was any mention that a previously bound handset could not be rebound without clearing the previous binding. I finally discovered the procedure in the base station's manual and all is now well.

The phones work well with great clarity. Conferencing can be cumbersome and not always 'take hold.' When using with VOIP provider, these phones 'ring back' after disconnect. Biggest frustration - within first six months, one unit 'dead'. Two months later, second unit has line running through bottom of screen. The units definitely have Panasonic VQ but the actual product quality would keep me recommending unless I just got a bad lot.

147.) Great Phone with One Problem
Reviewed by: D. L. Petersen Chicago, IL USA
Rating:
This Panasonic cordless phone has worked just fine. The handsets are lightweight and the sound quality is very good. There are enough options in the booklet for most users. The external phones need only an outlet - no phone jacks. I especially like entering contacts in the base unit and moving them to all the extensions easily.
One problem is with the base unit answering machine. There is a blinking light to announce that new messages have been received. Unfortunately, once you listen to them, without deleting them, no light is displayed. This means that the user has no indication that there are saved messages. In my household, if I hear a message that is not for me - I have to write a note to the person the call was for!! Even my 7-year-old system left a constant light on to indicate there were saved messages.

148.) New issue for phones : VoIP, or no?
Reviewed by: George Fort Lauderdale, FL
Rating:
I write this review more as a caution than a specific recommendation. The phone seemed a bit under-featured, and the screen was ugly, but sound quality was good. Price was excellent.

The problem was that the phone had several issues which I do not believe were really the phone's fault- I have VoIP service from ATT, like "Vonage." I believe that the dropped calls and clock problems I experienced may be from a basic incompatibility with VoIP service, and not a problem with the telephones, at all.

When you buy a new phone today, if you have VoIP, be sure your new set is compatible with that technology.

I like the features that this phone has to offer. It's really cool how you can check your messages directly from the phone. It's pretty easy and comfortable to use, as well. However, literally 8 days after I received it one of the speakers stopped working. This resulted in me not getting a dial tone or being able to use it unless I use it on speakerphone. The speakerphone feature does not even work that well. Whenever I use it, I have to practically hold it up to my face or people complain that they cannot hear me. I think that a product should definitely last more than a week without problems. We checked the owner's manual and sure enough, this is a common problem. We called up Panasonic and they said that they would fix it, but we would have to pay the shipping back. How out of line is that? I would not recommend this phone to anyone!

151.) One By One The Chargers Die
Reviewed by: readhead California
Rating:
I initially bought the base unit with 2 chargers and 3 handsets. I liked the phones, but was having trouble with one charger not charging despite indicating that it was. I purchased phone batteries, thinking that might be the problem, but it made no difference. One charger was "burned out" despite cleaning the contacts, plugging, unplugging, etc. I bought 2 more handset/charger sets, and within 3 months one of those chargers died, along with another of my original chargers. I now have 5 phones with only 2 functioning charger bases.

I just spoke to customer service who told me that only the phones are warranted, not the "accessories", which the chargers and cords are. He told me to go buy them on the website, that Panasonic would not stand behind the charger/cord product.

I rarely write reviews, but this infuriates me and I want to warn buyers.

Wow, was I relieved to see that the reviewer below had experienced a problem identical to my own. It does make me wonder what the folks at Panasonic are thinking by marketing this phone. There is something terribly wrong with it. I've kicked myself many times for having purchased this system. Like the reviewer below, all of my handsets do the same thing. They cut out without warning. The voice at the other end of the line begins to fade and the next thing you know, you're running to another room to pick up another handset. I've been through the whole process described below of unplugging all of the handsets and removing the batteries and putting them all together again. Not fun. Then they will work for a short time and go right back to malfunctioning. After numerous conversations with Panasonic Tech Support I finally got fed up and said, where do I send these back. And I did send them and they were replaced under warranty. Duh, the replacement phones do exactly the same thing. Do not buy this model. Something is wrong in the design. You may get a good one, you may get one like mine. Not worth it. Destroyed my faith in Panasonic.

I got these phones about 3 years ago and was disappointed from the first day. I should have gotten something else right away, but did not.

My biggest gripe is that if your voice gets a little loud, the ear piece seems to cut out and you think the phone has gone dead, thus in the beginning I was doing a lot of "are you still there?" Now I know it's just a bad feature of the phone.

I also have, as another reviewer has mentioned, that out of nowhere, you get a beep beep beep and your call is gone. You haven't done anything different but it happens. ????

At other times it won't show a caller ID. It will say incoming call and that's it.

Other times when the phone is ringing, I get one continuous ring for about 45 seconds straight. Very strange.

All of the other features are standard like any other phone and are fine once you figure them out and get used to them.

I would not buy these phones again and am currently looking for a new system, that's how I wound up here! Caio!
