I didn't mention anything about the audio qualities of this phone-a serious omission. I can say with assurance that the sound quality of the phone base as well as the cordless handset is very good. I torture-tested the handset (see the following paragraph) and I never heard any extraneous noise nor did it drop out. The volume boost and equalizer options are two very welcome features-background noise aggravates my occasional inability to distinguish one consonant sound from another.
Pros: Intuitive, easily navigable design. This is a phone you can find your way around on without spending hours with the manual before you can even so much as make a phone call. The display on the base unit as well as the handset is very clear & adequately illuminated. The base unit works without power from your local grid, an advantage here where it comes in on ancient, frail overhead lines that fail often in bad weather. Base handset is comfortable and well-balanced..like a good desktop phone should have. The talking Caller ID is surpisingly good-but it's far more useful for navigating the base and cordless handset's phone book-it "speaks" the name of the listings as you scroll through them. The range of the cordless handset is excellent-I've taken it to my neighbors and used it there when I watch their house..at that point the signal is traveling across 50ft of open space-and going through a fence, two stucco walls and three conventional gypsum board walls. Pretty impressive. The handset is slim & light but its other dimensions are larger than most cordless handsets you find today, which I appreciate. It's of a good size so you can tuck it between your head and shoulder without it falling out-those of you who are reluctant to give up your older phones because you don't want a cell phone-sized handset would do well to consider this model (or it's siblings) for that reason alone. Wall-mounting is built-in and it went up without a hitch.
Cons: Not too many. The amber backlighting is an easy-on-the-eyes amber color-much like Panasonic's keypads. It's not the usual "in your face" Uniden Orange :-)It's quite bright on the base unit but a bit dim on the handset-it's a small thing but it's worth mentioning. Some of the ring tones are terrifically loud-but then that's expected with the Loud and Clear line. I chose one of the lower frequencies and turned the ringer volume all the way down-it's quite easy to live with now. I also don't care much for using the side-mounted volume control to navigate the cordless handset menus-it works with small hands I'm sure but mine are large and when I attempt to make my way through the phonebook and such one-handed..the receiver drops into my palm and away from my fingers. Face-plate mounted buttons would be preferable, in my opinion. Another potential sore point is the use of a nickel-cadmium battery in the handset. I owned two of the Panasonic models that had major problems because of Ni-Cads. We'll see how it goes and I'll update this review if the battery gives trouble.
Back to the good points..the answering machine isn't remarkable, and by that I mean that it works as well as any I've used. Two nice features are the option to slow down playback of messages and also the automatic rejection of "empty" messages. The displays on both the handset and the base are very large and make use of good-sized (if slightly disproportionate) fonts. The styling is "out there", so to speak, but the boldness adds to the ease-of-use and so far it's received nothing but compliments from my friends and family. Everyone wants one
.
If you're looking for a combo phone you be hard-pressed to find a better unit than this Uniden. It has nearly every feature imaginable, and it's now available on Amazon at a competitive price, plus the usual Amazon amenities. You need this phone.

I agree with most of what "DTFFX" wrote in his 10/27/09 review, he was very thorough, and I can't comment on things like his distance claim or his battery concern for which I don't have any experience. This is a nice phone that has a lot of features, many features that can be turned on or off for that custom set-up. I turned off the speaking feature which I didn't care for.
One Con for me is the Talk Button. On the base unit, it turns the speakerphone on and off. On the handset it connects and disconnects the phone, but has a speaker button for the speakerphone on the handset. This is a little confusing for my 85 year old mother who uses the phone. I think the talk button on the base unit should simply be labeled speaker like the cordless handset. The base connects and disconnects by just picking up or hanging up the corded handset.
I am very pleased with this phone and would recommend it to anybody. I was looking for a corded base that operates during power failures, and this phone looked like the best in this price range.

I have been looking for a phone for my elderly parents. This one works perfectly for them, and I like it so much that I decided to get one for myself. I bought mine at Walmart for $75! It offers three different tones.......one which is designed for hearing aide wearers! I couldn't be more satisfied!! Best phone ever!

I purchased this for my 86 year-old mother who has trouble whenever she gets on the phone. She is always taking the hearing aids out or putting them in. Finally I can call mom and she can hear who is on the line and doesn't have to fool with her hearing aids! Yeah! I highly recommend this purchase for the hard of hearing and the elderly. Something I wasn't expecting was that the phone actually has a blinking light when the phone is ringing.

I wear a hearing aid, and this phone has been a blessing. It rings loud and clear, and also flashes! It's very easy to add phone numbers into the phonebook. I love being able to update the phonebook on both the corded and cordless phones. Both phones also come with the speakerphone feature, and can play back messages on both phones!! The Caller ID is also included and also be added to the phonebook. Hubby and I sometimes have difficulty reading the little display, but we have low vision problems. Maybe in the upgrade Uniden could add more backlighting in the visual display. We also love the "Do Not Disturb" feature. You won't hear the message or your announcement when calls come in. You will hear a short beep ever few seconds to alert you of a message that was left. They also come with the "Mute" button. Our older Uniden phone didn't have this feature. You can also purchase additional cordless phones for other rooms.

I bought this phone for my 95 year-old father-in-law who can't hear much of anything ("hearing aids don't work, ever!!! He has a friend who . . .). Anyhow, he's thrilled with it. Ringer is way loud enough, the voice volume can be set to "loud" and then "boosted" more while talking. Also, a LARGE and bright yellow light flashes when the phone rings. First phone I've ever seen him use for more than 30 seconds since he could never hear on the others. May have a few more features than you need (personal) and therefore take a little more time to set up than just plug-in and use. Not complicated though. Can't comment on reliability since he's had it for only one week.

We have tryed several cordless phones.... Panasonic, Motorola and Siemens to name a few... None have the clarity and range that this unit has. We live in a multi level home and the corded base is in the main living area.. the others would not even work in the next room let alone the back yard or garage.. Uniden has it nailed... we can even use these babies across the street...

I purchased this unit for work, since it was a "loud and clear" phone I figured it would be good around the shop. All in all I am pleased with the unit, the use of the volume buttons for navigation was a little hard to get used to at first but not bad. My only complaint is the ringer is not very loud, especially considering its marketed as a "Loud" phone. My old AT&T phone which simply did not survive the rigors of abuse in the shop was much louder, this one must be carried or close to you as any loud noise going on in the shop (such as a diesel engine running in the other end of the shop) and you simply will not hear it ring from more than 6 feet away. Range is as good as my last DECT6.0 phone and I like being able to check the answering machine from the cordless handset. I also like the feel of the unit, does not feel like its built "light and stylish," it fits my hand well.
I do recommend purchase, with the note about lack of volume on the ringer.

I got this phone for my elderly parents, after there cordless phone of almost a decade finally died. I was shocked just how load the handsets got. YIKES! boost is LOUD. Mom and Dad loved it and that's what counts. I quickly had all there speed dial numbers set in the base and sent auto-magically to the cordless (I've been waiting for this function for 10 years).
the only part that is tripping them up is the different functions between the cordless and the corded base. The big yellow button labeled "Talk" seems to be a small problem.
"Talk" button on the cordless....answers and hangs up the phone
"Talk" button on the base........Turns on and off the speakerphone
easy for me but has proven tough for them.
I'd definitely buy another one

I am on the phone for several hours every day, and need my hands free to type. Since headsets give me headaches, I use the speakerphone. On my old Uniden 5.8 GHz, I was constantly asking the person on the other line to repeat themselves.
When my old Uniden finally started to crap out on me, I ordered this one to replace it, thinking that I would finally be able to clearly hear the person I was on the phone with.
As you can see from the picture, it's not a very attractive phone, but I figured the ability to clearly hear the person I was speaking to would compensate for the appearance. I was disappointed...
The portable handset has 7 different choices for the ringer, and can be turned down to a bearable volume.
However, the base (the answering machine/corded phone), only has about 5 choices of ringer, and all of them are loud and obnoxious, even with the ringer turned down as low as it will go. I finally just gave up, and turned the ringer on the base off. Which sucks, because now there's no way to hear the phone ring in the den, unless I carry the portable phone in there with me.
Both the base and portable handset have talking caller ID, which announces (in a hilariously mispronounced way), the name of the person calling. However, turning the volume down on the ringer turns the volume down on the talking caller ID, so if you have the ringer volume turned down, you can't hear the talking caller ID.
***I wish the volume of the talking caller ID were separate from the ringer volume, and I wish I could turn the ringer off completely, and still have the talking caller ID work.***
On the portable handset, you can choose different ring tones for different people in your phone book (there are 7 choices of ringer). However, that is not the case with the base. On the base, you pick one of 5 ring tones, and all calls have that ring.
***I wish the base had more ring tones and the ability to choose a personal ring tones for the people in your phone book.***
There's not an easy call block feature. What I ended up doing is adding the telemarketer I wanted to block to my phone book, and choosing their personal ring as "silent." The portable handset still lights up when they call, but it doesn't ring on the handset. It does however, still ring on the base, unless I just turn the ringer on the base completely off for all incoming calls.
***I wish this phone had a call block feature.***
The speaker-phone on the base is pretty awesome. It's loud and clear! Unfortunately, there's not a phone outlet near my computer, where I use the phone, so I have to use the portable handset. The handset is top heavy, so when I try to set it upright on my desk, to talk to the person I'm on the phone with, it keeps toppling over. Also the "boost" function doesn't work on the portable handset's speaker phone. So... it's not any louder or clearer than my old Uniden phone. This made me very sad, because this is the whole reason I chose this particular phone.
***I wish the handset could be set upright without toppling over so easily, and I wish the speaker-phone on the handset were louder.***
The display on the phone is very large, but everything seems to be very tall and squished together, so it's harder to read than a smaller display would be.
I really like how bright the display, numbers, and talk button is. It's very easy to dial the pizza delivery, when you're sitting in the dark, watching a movie.
I don't like how incredibly bright the flashing "you have a message" light is, and the charging light. It's very distracting, and there's no way to turn that off on the handset, unless you listen to the message.
The mute button has been improved, to one button now, instead of having to push 2 buttons on the old Uniden handset. It's much easier to hit that button, before you sneeze in someones ear now!
The ear piece and display is so large on the handset now, that they got rid of the old joy-stick button on the old Uniden. This is hard for me to get used to, because now all the up and down selections on the menus have to be made by using the volume on the side of the phone. Not easy to figure out the first time, and not easy to do one handed, once you do figure it out.
To summarize, there are a lot of features that I like on this phone, but there's an awful lot that I wish they'd improve too.

Could not store incoming CID numbers to my directory, so I called Uniden to see what I was doing wrong and the person who answered my call at Uniden was clueless and told me that I had to store all phone numbers to my directory manually. Then, after owning the phone for about six weeks, the phone just died and the phone had no power, could not make any outgoing calls or take any incoming calls, what's more is that when I had this phone plugged into the jack, it would give a busy signal to people calling in. After calling the phone company, I found out the problem was with the phone. The quality of the phone is terrible and the customer service was worse. Luckily, Best Buy was willing to take this phone back for an exchange. No more phones from Uniden.

I did buy the phone at Best Buy. Tried it for a few weeks and returned the phone to Best Buy. The range of the cordless unit was not comparable to my previous Panasonic 5.8GHz system. The tonal quality was also tinny or scratchy at times. It looks good and feels solid but performs poorly. It does not provide either acceptable range or clarity, not even close to older technology.
