Vtech DECT 6.0 White/Black Accessory Handset with Caller ID and Handset Speakerphone (CS6209)We purchased this unit to use as aremote extension for our Vtech cordless phone & answering machine set. It was easy to add on and works great, allowing access to the stored memory phone numbers as well as serving as an intercom between to other phone units. Since this extension handset is located upstairs it allows us to answer the phone and easily calll to any other handset to notify other family members, if the call is for them. It also serves as an intercom for easy communication from upstairs to downstairs and vice versa.

We read a review of this product in Consumer Report magazine and decided to give it a try. We liked the phone so we purchased additional extension phones from Amazon. We have used them for several weeks and are very pleased. The phones we replaced were GE which only lasted 4 years before the display died. We replaced the battery ($35) and that didn't fix the problem.

I bought the original base and 2 remote phones, They were so good I went to Amazon and bought 2 more remote phones. They work in the house without static just as if they were hardwired. They also work well out in my yard, no fade out at all. For the price of this product I am very impressed. I would recommend it to all my friends. There is one thing I would pay extra for, if vtech would include a wall mount for the remote phones, I love the one supplied with the Base Unit.

This is an extra handset for the base system, not a complete system.

I got this handset to go with the full set with base that I previously purchased. I replaced a phone that had blinking lights all the time(not so great in the bedroom) and had never programed any numbers into it because it was too difficult.

this phone set programs very much like a cell phone (not that easy but easy enough for the technically challenged) so now I can quickly see who is calling . Adding a handset was super easy and everything programed into one handset is automatically on the others. Only the home base blinks for messages so I didn't have to throw clothes over it in the bedroom! The volume is easily adjusted and the speaker phone is clear. The phone even allows you to add a 1 to a displayed number to call back!

I do love this phone!

We bought the V-tech phone with the extra handset simply because you could add additional handsets which is what we bought from Amazon.com. The handsets were easy to set up and easy to use. It has great features and am very happy with the phones.

Fantastic range... for a cordless phone anyway. We bought this to replace a Uniden set, which lost reception just a few yards from it's base. The VTech phone gets a signal all the way out to our shop, which is about 300 feet. The signal starts to cut in and out if we put the shop between the phone and the house. The phone also has some nice features that the Uniden didn't have, like the ability to talk between phone sets (intercom, conference call).

No wires to run, and a simple set up is all that's required. Clear sound, loud ringer, {I'm Seventy}, and a lot of bells and whistles, not found on some more expensive phones.....Remember.... this a slave unit to the base phone.

I purchased the set that has the main phone and base and four additional handsets. I liked the phone so much I added an additional two. I love the intercom feature. No more yelling for the kids, I just call the handset and they come. I love the speaker phone feature which allows us to talk to family in Texas as a group. The sound is clear and crisp and it is like they are in the room. The main set can be set to beep if there are new messages. That is a nice feature since my teenagers don't always tell me that I have messages. The only feature I am not too keen on is that if there is a missed call, to clear the missed call you end up scrolling through all the calls. This is because it doesn't highlight or indicate that I can tell that viola this is the missed call when it comes up on the screen. It is a small deal, and if I get a chance to read the booklet I might find a solution.

Overall this is an awesome deal, and a great phone set. I bought the main set at Costco.

I use a Magicjack and I tried two other cordless phones that I previously owned, and there was A LOT of interference. As a result, I wasn't sure if it was the magicjack or the phones I was using... Anyway, I purchased this item and now everything is working great - sound quality even with magicjack is crystal clear, and unlike what some other people have said, the speaker phone on the handsets work great as well. I also like how the phones are completely synced to each other even when you do the initial setup for setting the date and time. Intercom feature to call other handsets is great too. These phones are working perfect for me! I did not need a answering machine as it is built into my phone service, so all I needed was 2 synced cordless phones with heandset speakerphones and ended up getting more. And once again - I couldn't be happier with these phones, that I got for an awesome price.

After I purchased the 3-Handset Cordless Phone System (reviewed previously), Amazon put the accessory single handset on my recommended list. I jumped at the chance to have two additional handsets in strategic locations, namely the basement, and the garage. Either way, I am covered in the event of a need. The price was very reasonable, several weeks ago; today, it's listed for 33% more in cost. It's your choice.

This purchase was well thought out and quick; I saw it on a Sunday night, ordered it on Monday morning, and received it on Thursday, mid-day. Great product, newest technology, fresh start, and ready for normal use and possible needs in other locations in the house.

Remember though, accessory handsets must be compatible. They must also be "registered" with the base; it's a simple process, and there is no other work to do. Previously, I had a Vtech set, and because they are highly recommended in product reviews, I bought Vtech, again.

Lastly, those of you who are commenting that you hear scratchy background noises, consider buying extra phone filters; because they usually come with a new DSL installation, and if you need additional ones, check out Amazon's website; for this, you are on your own.

49.) You Get What You Pay For
Reviewed by: history-nut Fort Worth TX
Rating:
I wanted a system with multiple phones and without an answering machine. I've liked V-Tech in the past and this set looked good.

But there are a nummber of problems with it: (1) the phones don't hold time and date information; I program in the correct time and date and 3 hours later the time (at 4 pm) is 1:00 a.m. and the date is January 2008. (2) the phones are so light in weight they feel cheap. (3) There's no obvious indication of messages from my message service (like a blinking light) - I have to look at the phone screen to check for them. (4) I find the screen very hard to read - there's a kind of 3-D effect that blurs the letters and numbers. (5) clarity of sound varies greatly even with the same phone and location; reception isn't particularly good: eg, I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building and my daughter lives on the fourth floor; our conversations are often hard to interpret as they often fade in and out.

On the positive side: (1) the numbers and other buttons (menu, up & down choice movements, etc.) are raised and large enough to be easily used. (2) programming something (eg, names in the directory) only has to be done once and all the other phones are programmed as well. (3) When entering letters in the directory the first letter is capitalized and the remaining letters - until a space - are lower scale; saves as lot of repetitive moves.

If I had know this information before selecting this item I wouldn't have ordered it. It is inexpensive enough that I'll keep in until it dies and then get a much better one.

51.) sound off
Reviewed by: John Dallas Bowers Villanova, PA USA
Rating:
I had high hopes for these phones (after all, I bought one for each room in my home), and as you can see from my star ratings on specific attributes, there's a lot to like about them: attractive design, good features, intuitive functionality, and so far, no real problems on reliability.

It's just using them as phones that reveals their weaknesses, and those come down to sound quality and comfort -- for me, the two most important characteristics in a telephone.

I find the V-Techs unergonomic in the extreme, sort of like holding a brick against my ear (hard, flat). And because of their iffy sound reproduction, I find myself reflexively pressing the receiver against my ear to hear the caller. Not good for any extended period of time.

I avoid that experience by using the speakerphone mode, which, according to my listeners, is quite bearable -- and no worse than hearing my voice in person. But the big problem is the incoming signal: I find the sound simply fades into nothingness for seconds at a time, something akin to a fading cell call. Quite perplexing -- and annoying, since I need to ask callers to repeat themselves, repeatedly.

I don't know what's up with that. It's not the traditional problem associated with "talking over" someone, which with many wireless phones can result in signal canceling. These lapses happen when I'm simply listening. I'll probably call the company about it, but I'm guessing it's not my particular units (it happens with all the extensions, even the one with the base), but something intrinsic in the engineering.

So yes, there's a lot to like with the V-Tech: great range, decent battery life, integrated update capabilities (changing contact info on one extension, for example, shares it immediately throughout the system). But while I don't anticipate returning the phones (I'm a bit lazy and too willing sometimes to put up with stuff), I can't really recommend them. I'm hoping that if/when I speak with the company, there will be some explanation and recourse.

By the way, I do a lot of phone interviews in my line of work (writer), and for that, I have a wired headset by GN Netcom. Now THAT is the way to talk on the phone.

So now I'm holding to it until I can afford the whole thing and in the meantyme I'm stuck with the phone I wanted to replace which kinda blows.

54.) Intercom Use and Handset Naming is Substandard
Reviewed by: Herbert G. Zeller
Rating:
In addition to the two with the base, I bought three additional handsets to distribute around my three level home. The handsets are automatically numbered 1, 2, 3...and cannot be renamed to identify their location in the house (and where the charging station would be), such as: family room, bedroom, kitchen, study, living room. A specific name is much easier to remember when calling another room/location than associating a handset number with the each location. This feature was available on the inexpensive cordless phones I replaced.

Secondly, when using the intercom function to call from one handset to another it is not possible to CALL ALL the handset simultaneously. Only one other handset may be called at a time, and only the handset that is called may be used to answer the intercom call. Thus, if you call the handset where no one is nearby to answer, you must call all the other handsets individually until you find the person. In addition, if you hear the handset that is called ring you cannot answer it except with the handset that is ringing. None of the other handsets can respond to the intercom call. This just about eliminates any convenience a multi-station intercom offers.

55.) NOT A COMPLETE PHONE
Reviewed by: John D. Ford Lexington, KY USA
Rating:
This is not the complete phone for anyone else who gets confused. This is an accessory handset. You cannot buy this by itself and use it as a phone. There is no phone jack on the phone or the base. You have to buy CS2619 or CS6229. I would think there should be a better description for this phone since it is one of the top results for "cordless phone" but whatever. The only indication is the two word description "accessory handset." Again, do not buy this unit if you need a complete phone. Rated 1 star for inaccurate description.
